31 July 2015 (Friday)

On this day in 1953 (Friday):
Worked all morning on my Plymouth and all afternoon until about 4:30. Saw Barbara a little while in her lunch break a[sic] noon and then picked her up after work and went with her to get herself a new suit. Also took her to a party a[sic] Deb [Carlsons] place tonight. Had a big [scazinger] float. Had a flat tire on the Dodge. Got her home about 1:00. [unk] 54 [unk] 48. 311.72.
No entry yesterday because I didn't get back to the hotel until almost 11. So, yesterday: Left the house around 10 to take the bus downtown and then the rail to that airport. Really left too early, had lots of time to kill. Got lunch down at the airport. Flight down was okay, on a prop plane. They offered a small glass of complimentary beer or wine (Alaska) of which I partook of neither. Nice scenery on the way down though. The person, BJ, was there to pick me up, 60s-ish, very talkative, the usual. Stayed at The Benson Hotel, pretty nice place, although I wasn't there for very long before we left for dinner. Sarah was there, we'd worked together at Memphis in 1996 and were in the same grad program at UW. My talk went well, only about 20 people there but they asked lots of good questions. Some I couldn't answer because they were about the baths. But it went well, I got pretty into it. Then BJ took me to this nice outdoor bar and we met some other lady and yakked a while and then she took me back to the Benson around 10:45.

I checked into my flight (for today) and actually got to sleep a little before 11:30. But then I woke up at 4:30 so I was very tired all day. The hotel offers a "Fish Companion" if you wish, which I presume is a little pet fish you can keep in your room. I had breakfast in the dining room ($15 for two eggs, has brown -- plain -- and tea, although they made me a cup of tea to go which I never drank). I walked down to a place called Voodoo Doughnuts which was about 8 blocks away. Famous place. Too slow though. Kind of in a seedy little area, lots of people asleep on the sidewalks, and one weird guy, shirtless and wearing a pink tutu, who they chased away even though he didn't seem to be doing anything. Took too long though, but I got a french crueller for $1.25 and it turned out to be deeeelish. Walked back, checked out, and then took a shuttle to the airport.

In the security line I started talking to a nice lady who'd just moved to Portland from NYC and was going to visit some friend of hers in Chicago. We talked for quit a while and even met at the SBux and chatted some more. The "friend" seemed a little. . . .funny. Said she'd known her since she (the friend( was 6 years old, now graduated from college. Hmmm. Well, I dunno, I just imagined they were having some sort of lesbian tryst or something. But she was quite pleasant.

Didn't have long to wait for the flight, all uneventful. Was kind of nice to have to walk out onto the tarmac and up into the plane for a change, kinda old timey like. My first plane ride was on a prop plane in the 1970s, a North Central Airlines one (probably a Convair CV-580). Took the train to downtown and had lunch at Westlake, then got on a bus for home around 1. Had to go to UVil to get dinner stuff, had a passion tea outside, too. Pleasant. Came home, fiddled around, made dinner, etc. I'm glad I just went down and back quickly, I'll get enough traveling at the end of the month.

29 July 2015 (Wednesday)

On this day in 1953 (Wednesday):
Worked on the car all morning until noon. After dinner had to take Grandma to the [Store] and then I went down to the junk yard and got myself a [camp] holder for one of my [arialy] and the car. Picked Barbara and [Salima] up from work and took them home this evening. Drove around town until [puistes] late tonight. Got to bed about 11:40. ice cream cone $.05. gas $.75. Spent $.80.
Last day at work today. Again. Funded anyway, for the time being. I got a few things done, Harbourview had a picnic for employees and volunteers and I went over about 12:45, although I'd gone over earlier to eat a scone. They had hamburgers and such but I got an ice cream sandwich the second time. Rowena, Pirie, Elizabeth (new person), and . . .hmmm, some guy I know but can't remember his name, went over, too. I left around 2:30. I bounced a couple of ideas at Michael for grant projects. One is continuing the alcohol study, basically applying the AUDIT to everyone, tracking their CD4 and viral loads, and querying them on what sort of stuff they're drinking, commercial or home brews, etc. The other one I thought of is testing the use of a quick HPV test. I cold work in cost/benefit stuff, test long term prediction, etc. Alcohol would be easier and probably easier to sell, but the other one might be more scientifically valid. We'll see.

I didn't even do any work when I came home. I'll do some next week and that will take care of my time. Made dinner and then walked around. My talk is all wrapped up, maybe a couple more slides need to be added, but I'm all set. I'm not really worried although it does kind of worry me that I'm not really worried.

28 July 2015 (Tuesday)

On this day in 1953 (Tuesday):
Worked on my Plymouth until noon this morning and then after dinner I helped dad down at the church until supper time. Went skating for a little while tonight. $.60. Drove around town some tonight. Got in about 11:00. Had a bite to eat and then got to bed. Am not as tired as usual tonight. Spent $.60.
I do kind of wonder what he is always doing to this car all the time.

I managed to sleep okay last night although I was up in the middle of the night having a nasty little anxiety attack. Jack was my little buddy though, kept sniffing at my nose and rubbing and stuff. He didn't like me sleeping on the floor though.

I worked out (decent one) and some black dude got me to "plank" for a minute. Just at random. The arm exercises I'm doing seem to be working, it doesn't hurt very much lately. Let's hope. Came home and worked here all day and got quite a lot done. Found a bunch more problems, but they seem fixable. Had ramen for lunch at home here. What else. . . .I stopped about 3:15 and fiddled on ye olde guitar for a bit. Fingers hurt though. We went to UVil to get dinner stuff for tomorrow. Yet another women's athletic clothing store is going in. For future reference, probably half of women wear yoga pants/leggings nearly all the time. For us men, this is largely a good thing. Does get a bit monotonous though.

Back to watering. Will be around 90 for the next several days.

27 July 2015 (Monday)

On this day in 1953 (Monday):
Went out this morning and picked pie cherries for grandma to can. Had dinner about 3:00 this afternoon. Mowed grandma's lawn for her went I got done eating. Picked Barbara and her sister up from work and took them home. Went to band practice tonight at the high school. Drove around town for a little while afterwards. Got home about 10:30.
Am listening right now to The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald, Gordon Lightfoot's song. Such a haunting song, it really holds up over the years. I do remember when it went down, made all the news in Wisconsin.

So last night I got up to go to the TV room and laid down and then remembered we hadn't started the dishwasher. So I started that, went and laid back down.

*clank*. . . . .*clank*. . . . .*clank*. . . . .*clank*. . . . .

So I went out and opened it up and removed what I thought was the offending item. Shut it, turned it back on. . . .

*clank*. . . . .*clank*. . . . .*clank*. . . . .*clank*. . . . .

So I shut the door and put a pillow over my head. Worked fine and I slept the rest of the night.

Had a really good workout and even added in some leg stuff because tomorrow I was off to the field. Except that I'm not because I learned the plans had changed and I need to refigure the cost because it will probably need more probes. Not much, but I want to be sure we're covered. So I'll work on UW stuff tomorrow at home and then again on Wednesday, although Wednesday I will go downtown because Gillian is is giving a KRP talk and she is not only a friend she's also quite comely.

Heeeeyyyyy. . . . .I just looked her up and it's not my Gillian. Actually I think my Gillian is really a Jillian. Oh well, whatever. Will go in anyway.

Made some comments on Engi's paper, found a bunch of bad IDNums in the Coptic data (surprise!) and fiddled with potential grant stuff, too. Left at 2 and worked at home some. Also had to fiddle with the Orcas Island project stuff (the delay). Walked up to the bank.

26 July 2015 (Sunday)

On this day in 1953 (Sunday):
Took dad down to the church and then came back and work some more on my Plymouth. Barbara skipped church this morning also and came down a little while. Picked up Barbara this afternoon from Bill [Tampayne's] wedding. Drove around a lot after that gas $1.00. Played in church [unk] tonight and got through church with Barbara. Took her out after church. Went to the drive-in Eats $1.00. The Korean armistice was signed 5:00 this evening. Spent $2.00.
Did not know this was the Korean armistice date. Huh. Odd (maybe not) he never wrote anything about the war.

We just got back from a shortish walk, which we almost did not go on because. . . .IT WAS RAINING. Yes! Wonderful glorious rain. I slept out in the tent in the back yard last night and indeed got my rain-in-a-tent night. It was mostly wonderful. I woke up around (probably) midnight and it was raining then, which I would have loved but I really had to. . .answer the call of nature. I hemmed and hawed for a while and then opened the tent door and just wee'd out the door. Hee! Had to take another diphenhydramine and went back to sleep after a while, although with some anxiety attacking going on. I woke up a coupe more times, painfully -- for some reason it hurt my upper back a lot -- and then around maybe 3:30-4 I woke up again to the rain and that time I just laid there and enjoyed the sound of the rain on the tent. That's one of my favorite things in the world. I ended up going back to sleep until almost 5:30. So except for breaking the one pole and peeing out the door in the rain and my back hurting, it was quite delightful.

Probably also had enough of that for the rest of the year, too. Although I feel like I should do that in December or January once just to experience it in the winter.

I didn't go to Mass today, was very sleepy despite getting apparently adequate rest. I cleaned and Lemon Pledged my desk and did a few other things, and then read some on the Fayum stuff just to have it fresh in my mind and napped at my desk.

We went to UVil for the usual stuff, but went up to the Taco Time for lunch. There's really only one place at UVil to lunch at for us, the rest are sit-down places. Did the shopping, stopped at one of Marianne's estate sales (not much there and we didn't buy anything), and then came home. Didn't do much else, watched the Brickyard 400 race for a while, took the tent down -- I'd dragged it under the patio when I came inside this morning, not to keep the tent dry but to uncover the grass so the rain could get at it -- and made a little play structure for the cats by propping up a tunnel under the tent. They liked that.

For dinner I made some Italian recipe Fr. Basso told us last week. Chicken with olive paste (and white wine and cream), which turned out okay, but I could have used more of the paste. Since it was raining we were just going to clean, and I folded up the tent and vacuumed downstairs when it cleared up so we walked anyway.

AND. . . .I am getting rid of my old briefcase. Been lugging it around for like 20 years and it's been sitting in the closet in the basement since we moved in. I got it when I started working at the County back in 1990, because I'd be hauling papers around a lot. Only lasted a while and I got a soft sided one. It was gray plastic and kind of cool looking, Even took it to Egypt once, I think. Anyway, I found a London map book and a business card for Jimmy's Greek restaurant. Oddly, however, I was misinformed about the place. In the Rolling Stones' song "You Can't always Get What You Want" theres the line "I was standing in line with Mr. Jimmy" who I'd been told was the owner of the restaurant. The Web says it was some guy in Minnesota though. Hmmm. Not sure I buy that. Anyway, I went there twice, once in 1991 with Ryan and the other guy. . . .and once with the Spousal Unit, probably in 1994.

Oh, and a little office kit was in there, too. Which was cool.

25 July 2015 (Saturday)

On this day in 1953 (Saturday):
Went down to the church with dad this morning and then took grandma's shopping and then brought the car on home and work on my Plymouth the rest of the day until time to go to work. Stopped by Barbara's place on the way to work for a little while. Got a hair cut today $1.25. Had a big dance tonight. Took the Dodge out to it. Pop $.10. Spent $1.35.
Odd day today. It rained a decent amount overnight though I didn't hear any of it. I slept okay, woke up about 4:20. Eh. Hung out until almost 6:45 when the Spousal Unit got up. We went to Burgermaster for breakfast and it wasn't all that great. I got hash browns and gravy intending to eat half of it and eat the rest Tuesday morning. Wasn't very good, the gravy tasted like flour. So I ate 1/3 of it and tossed the rest. Still was enough for me.

Came home and finished my slides for next Thursday in Portland. I might make a few changes, but it's mostly all set. That took over an hour, I think. Watched a bit of TV after that. Left for the Ave and hair cuts around 10:30. Parked on campus and got that done, lunch at Pagliacci. I'd like to branch out with the food down there more, but I don't go there often enough to know what's around. I mean, the usual set of thai and what-not. Not the best area these days though. I went to the U Bookstore after mine was done. We went to Magus Used Bookstore after lunch and I got three Sci Fi paperbacks. I tried to branch out since the only one's I've been reading are James Hogan and Herbert (Dune series). So I grabbed a couple that looked okay, and one other by Hogan. I won't be reading them that often but I like to read those sorts of things during the summer. I think it goes back to my teenaged years when I read a lot during the summer, and mostly sci fi.

We dropped by the UVil QFC for dinner stuff (fish) and then came home. I cleaned the interior surfaces of the Honda and then Lemon Pledged them all. I use that instead of Armor All because it's cheaper and the same basic stuff. Keeps the vinyl and plastic from drying and cracking. Cleaned out the gunned up fuel cap area, too. The Spousal Unit did some yard work while I was doing that, and then she watched a Lord of the Rings movie while I watched some other junk downstairs and then made dinner.

I set up the tent outside, broke one of the poles, darn it. It's supposed to be cool and maybe some rain overnight and I wanted to be outside once in the rain. I think we can get a replacement pole. Maybe.

So that's it. Tomorrow I should have a report on the overnighter out back.

24 July 2015 (Friday)

On this day in 1953 (Friday):
Went down to the church with dad this morning and then brought the Dodge back home. Work all day on my Plymouth getting it [smoothed] up. Took the car back [church] for dinner and for supper. Worked until 11:00 tonight. Then came in and ate some. Sure am tired tonight. I guess Barbara went to a shower for [Marion Tobias] tonight. Haven't seen her today.
Had a pleasant day today, all things considered. Meeting last night went well. Went right to sleep and slept until 5, so I wasn't overly wiped out. Had a really decent workout, talked to Hannah, Stewart, and chatted a bit with a PT chick I met a couple of years ago (or maybe just a year). That reminded me to search for something on my injury and found something on the web, actually a medical paper, about something that looked similar. I have some exercises to try next week.

I came home, ate bagels, and then drove my Mustang to the shop to do a couple of things. I'm going to Orcas next Tuesday for a small survey so I made those arrangements. Did a couple of other things, and then worked on UW stuff for a bit (I did some of that at home before going there, too). Left and went to NGate for lunch and then went home for a few minutes. It rained a bit! Kind of mostly just some hard sprinkling but I did have to use the wipers almost constantly for a little while. Yay. More supposedly coming Sunday.

Went to UVil just to sit in the SBux and wind down a bit. I came home and pit up the day of the dead tiles in the bathroom, and did some weeding (Weed Hound-ing) out front, and then did the dishes, changed the hummingbird feeder, etc. Finally sat down around 4, watched TV, and fell asleep for 5 minutes. Was out before I even knew it.

We walked at NGate tonight, too, it wasn't raining but I felt like walking indoors for some reason.

23 July 2015 (Thursday)

On this day in 1953 (Thursday):
The [work] company came and got the old Dodge today. Started to work on my Plymouth getting it ready for a new paint job. Chased around town some getting some supplies to do it. Picked Barbara up at about 7:30 and we went to the show at the Liberty $1.50. We saw just and[sic] excellent picture. By The Light of The Silvery Moon. After the show we came by the house a little while. Got in about 12:15. gas $1.00. Spent $2.50.
Provided the links to the theatre and the film.

Had trouble sleeping last night, at 3 anyway. Tried another diphenhydramine but that didn't work so I resorted to 1/4 ambien and slept on the floor. Was not warm enough under just the sheet though.

But I woke up reasonably refreshed. Had a pretty decent workout, although I was unable to do the many-reps workout that I had planned on. Not that big of a deal, it was still a pretty hard workout. Kinda quiet down there, too. I came home and worked there all day. I got the whole cytology data straightened out, except for the ones I can't figure out -- like it will have two results that differ and it's impossible to tell which is the right one. But that was a bit of work. Was thinking this evening that I need to really make an Access DB out of it. Maybe. We'll see. Should get the histology done next week, or maybe even tomorrow.

I went to lunch at McD's and only had fries. Then came right home and worked some more. I quit around 2:30. Played my trumpet and was doing quite well with Unforgettable. I tried Summer Wind after that and it wasn't so good. But I like playing that thing more than the guitar tellyawhat. My arm hurt like the dickens after that though. I didn't think I was playing it differently, but I must have been holding it the 'correct' way, meaning the wrong way for my arm. Harrumph.

Made dinner of gigantic teriyaki burgers and pea salad. Walked, stopping by the library so the Spousal Unit could pick up a movie. There were people playing chess. I dunno, sometimes the whole public library thing kind of irritates me -- it's mostly for middle class people to not have to pay for books, let's face it -- and it seems to me unbearable boring to spend one's evening at the library. But there is a little part of me that can kind of see me in my old age going down there just to get out of the house for a while. So I dunno.

Wednesday, July 22, 2015

22 July 2015 (Wednesday)

On this day in 1953 (Wednesday):
Mowed and tidied up the lawn the first thing this morning and I just layed[sic] around and read some magazines and kept the rest of the day. Picked Barbara and [Glenda] up from work and took them home after supper at grandma's [mound]. Went skating tonight. Took the Dodge. [First] time on the floor tonight for me. Got in about 11:30. Skating $.60. Spent $.60.
I SLEPT ALL NIGHT IN THE BED. This happens so rarely I must sing it from the mountaintops.

I did the Skype with Sharon this morning and I think we got most things straightened out. Actually it only lasted like 15 minutes but she was a bit late signing in so I was about an hour behind schedule. Had a decent workout although it was pretty sparse there today. I did back stuff and a bit of an attenuated cycling at the end (less than I would normally have done) but went to the rotunda and had a donut and soda. Went downtown and met with some guy who's doing a profile on me for. . . .something. I hope he makes me sound reasonably interesting.

I worked pretty steadily mostly on getting the histology stuff ready. At first I thought it was going to be really easy but it's got problems as well, though there aren't nearly as many as the cytology ones. I got it most of the way, I think. Hardly anyone there again today, all up at the conference. Had some sort of pasta Greek thing from the grocery store downstairs. Meh. Well, it was tasty enough but the garlic made my stomach none too happy later on.

Came home at the usual time. Went to the UVil cuz I needed bagels and milk. They have their summer concerts on Wednesday. Tonight was a Beatles "tribute band" which I think is kinda stupid. You're just playing their music! At least be interesting and play it differently and, you know, maybe something else, too? Well, whatever.

Tuesday, July 21, 2015

21 July 2015 (Tuesday)

On this day in 1953 (Tuesday):
Finished taking the old car apart today. Now waiting to get it [loaded] off. Did some work on the [lathe] for dad today also. Picked Barbara and [Glena] up after work this afternoon. Took Barbara to the Chitwood [Drumfield] show at the Fairgrounds tonight $4.00. After the show went to the drive-in and had some eats $1.19. Got home about 12:00. gas $1.00. Spent $6.19.
Barbara's got a job and he's still kind of a bum.

Not that there's anything wrong with that. . . . .

Slept okay last night. With assistance, twice even. Probably too tired. Had a really good workout, too. Got downtown okay, and. . .eh, tried to stay busy, but I'm waiting for other stuff to happen. The dates really are fouled up; some are in as dd/mm and others are mm/dd. Impossible to tell many of them apart so we'll really need to get them re-entered or something. Am Skyping Sharon tomorrow morning and hope to find out more.

I left there at 2 and only worked a little bit when I came home. Am not going in to Cascadia this week unless they need me so I'm not working full days at UW. Not many people there anyway since they're all up in Vancouver at a conference. I started in on the biopsy data today, too.

Tuned up the guitar and will play it some this evening.

Monday, July 20, 2015

20 July 2015 (Monday)

On this day in 1953 (Monday):
Worked quite a bit on the old car today. Just about got it torn down now. Ran out of gas with my Plymouth today. Gas $1.00. Had some pistons [degalayered] $.68. Picked Barbara and her sister up after work today. Also took her to the summer band practice at the high school which started this evening. We drove around just a little afterwards. Got home about 10:15. Spent $1.68.
Hey! I finally got home later than he did!

Yes, the Rush concert was quite wonderful. It's their 'farewell' tour in the sense that they've said they probably won't tour in a major way again. So they are doing a retrospective sort of thing. Started going through their catalog in reverse chronological order, starting with the last album (Clockwork Angels, 2012) all the way back to 1974. They started out with various stage sets from their last few tours and constantly had guys in orange coveralls coming out and changing stuff out to make the stage set look earlier (wall of speakers and amps from the 1980s) and earlier until at the end it was just the three of them on stage with a couple of light towers, a few speakers/amps sitting on chairs, and a mirror ball with a school gymnasium projected on the screen, and them playing their old double-necked(!) guitars and such from the first couple of albums. And a cardboard cutout of Kiss. Heh. (They opened for Kiss for a while)

Crowd skewed mostly male (obviously), but there was a decent number of females around, though this is the first major event where the Spousal Unit reported no lines at all in the women's rest rooms. I suspect a good number of the females present were there as Spousal Support Units. Pretty good showing of younger people, too, but the average age was definitely 50s.

We went down there around 5, at at the Westlake Mall just so we could eat in the cool without a million people around. Then we took the monorail over, had a funnel cake for dessert and then sat around for an hour or so just watching people. Oh, they had a Rush tribute band playing when we wandered into the Center. Ha! Interesting people.

I decided to leave just before the last song (Working Man) which was at around 10:35-40 just to make sure we got the last monorail out at 11. Could have waited actually, a bunch of people from the concert took the same one, but whatever. Made it back to downtown and home by 11:30. I'm very glad I went. It seems a bit . . .sad though. I know they can probably keep going for another 10-15 years, but it seems like it will be more difficult to see them. And the whole retrospective thing just seemed a bit like an ending.

Anyhow, I got to sleep by 12 and woke up a little before 5 so I went to the gym. Had a pretty decent workout. I came home and worked here most of the day, figuring I would be kind of wiped out if I went in. I have most of the week free anyway. We went to McD's for lunch, then went up and got the SuBAHru washed, and then grabbed a new round light bulb for my magnifying lamp on the way back. The old one was made in "W Germany" so I suppose it's about time I was replaced.

I practiced my trumpet for a while. Mostly just doing some scales and drills. Went okay but that bloody C-D is still driving me crazy.

Went to UVil for our walk and to get some stuff for tomorrow.

Sunday, July 19, 2015

19 July 2015 (Sunday RUSH day)

On this day in 1953 (Sunday):
Got up in time to make it to church this morning. Met Barbara there. Ate dinner at Grandma's and then about 1:30 I picked Barbara up and we went out to [Engsbach Ranch] for a while. $1.00. Had some pop $.20. Got some gas $1.00 and then drove around for a while got back in time for church this evening. Went to the drive-in after church $1.19 eats. Sure am glad to get Barbara back. Sure had a lot of fun today. Got home about 11:00. Spent $3.39.
Writing this at 2:30 in the afternoon cuz we're going to the Rush concert tonight, leaving around 4. At Key Arena at Seattle Center. Looking forward to it, but not looking forward to the crowds and such. It's also the Bite of Seattle down there so it will be jammed. We're parking at Pacific Place and then taking the monorail over.

Man, I slept well last night. Took a little while to get to sleep but then I was mostly out until 5:15. I even went to Mass. This is like the 4th time I've worn shorts this year. Fr. Basso was there again and homilied about St. Francis of Assisi and such. Came home and should have done some chores but didn't, just laid about watching TV. Now I have to do them before we leave. We went to UVil and did the usual stuff.

Saturday, July 18, 2015

18 July 2015 (Saturday)

On this day in 1953 (Saturday):
Took grandma shopping this morning. Slept some today but also did a lot of work finishing taking apart the old car. Les came over a little while before the dance tonight. [Saw] Barbara a little bit on the way to the dance. Brought Les home after the dance. Got in about 1:15. Had a bottle of pop $.10 and a [cane] today. Spent $.20.
I rather like the idea of a Saturday night dance every week. Not that I would do it now, but I suppose that's what one did back then for fun on a Saturday night.

Rough night last night. Woke up at 11:30 and my guts felt like crap, not nausea, just like an alien was burrowing through my insides. I had to sleep on the floor on my back because I couldn't get comfortable on the couch. For some time (even sleeping) I had my legs up on the ottoman. I eventually felt better by the morning, but was still not feeling really great. Was awake a lot. Used no assistance as I didn't trust my stomach at that point. So was kind of tired all day.

All I had for breakfast was some oatmeal. Didn't do much of anything all morning either. We were vaguely planning on going to North Bend but I couldn't get motivated to do so, so we just went out for lunch for (bland) at the Panera at NGate, and then made a couple of other stops on the way home. Spousal Unit bought an $.80 box of some blueberry stuff and made that for dessert tonight. Wasn't too bad. Actually it's this stuff called "Krusteaz" ('crust easy') which made me giggle (and my friend Virgil) when we came out here because that's what we used to call underwear (crustey's).

Err what else. I laid out back for a while to get rid of my farmer tan some, sweated a lot (91 today) and then came in and watched more TV. That's mostly what I did today. Went for a walk in Laurelhurst. Watered. The rain barrel got filled up some last(?) week so I watered some with that tonight. Hopefully we'll recharge it again next week.

17 July 2015 (Friday)

On this day in 1953 (Friday):
Mowed the lawn the first thing this morning. Went down to the church and did some sweeping and around about half the lawn [Sassy] there. Took Barbara out to a water melon [fest] out the park[sic] tonight. We parked for a while until the party. Got in [home] about 1:00 this morning. Am a little tired tonight. gas $1.00. Spent $1.00.
I had a pleasant day. Decent Skype meeting last night. Took a while to get to sleep but stayed that way until 4:30. Eh, okay. Had a really good workout although it was a little weird; my muscles felt strong but got tired kind of quickly during the sets. Probably lack of sleep. Rode my bike down and back. I took some food down to the church and Fr. Basso the Michigander was there so I made sure to say "On Wisconsin!" Fatal shooting at 65th and about 23rd (her where we used to live) this morning, after the driver rammed a patrol car on I5. I didn't see any of it, just heard the copter overhead when I left.

Didn't do much work at the shop except to get some projects straightened out, including (eek!) one that I forgot to do a summary (i.e., prep for invoicing) on. They're in financial trouble, again. Mainly few projects and several are behind in paying. Hope it picks up by September.

Went to lunch at NGate and the went to Spam's Club to get my contacts and then home. Didn't stay there long before I went (in Mustang) to UVil to sit at SBux for a bit. Groceries for dinner. That was it. I was playing my trumpet this afternoon and not doing a good job of it, mainly because I wasn't really concentrating. I was trying to play Unforgettable, which is really easy to be honest, but I was messing it up. I am realizing how far I am from performing and being really good. I mean, WAY closer than I was with the guitar, but I guess when I first picked it up again I kind of figured that with the progress I made in a few weeks I'd practically be a professional by the end of the summer! (Not really, except maybe subconsciously) There's just a hundred little things that I need to improve upon, tonally, ease of hitting whatever note I want, etc. It is much easier than the guitar, but still requires quite a lot of practice to get really good at it. I do so enjoy it though.

16 July 2015 (Thursday)

On this day in 1953 (Thursday):
First thing this morning I defrosted the refrigerator and then cleaned up the house. After dinner I took my skates down to the church and skated in the basement for a while. Jim came into town about 7:30 tonight with his Studebaker and we drove al over the county until when I got in about 1:00 this morning. Picked up Barbara and took her home from down town about 10:00. Stopped at the drive-in $.50. Spent $.50.
Oh well, back to Barbara. First mention of a Studebaker.

I had a decent day. Slept well, despite a fairly intense anxiety attack in the middle of the night; slept on the floor after that and really relaxed and slept until the alarm went off. Had a truly awesome workout, too, my legs just felt really strong. Err, abundant scenery helped, too. Back is till doing fine, although my knees were a bit sore on one set of squats.

Came home and started working on UW stuff, finally getting all but 11 of the randomized patients' initial cytology results nailed down, at least preliminarily. I started looking much closer at the actual records and that helped clarify most of them. I feel pretty good about it in bulk.

Hd new ramen for lunch, meh. Well, better than the cheap stuff, not as good as the kimchi stuff though. Worked until about 2 and then made an attempt at the outlet in the kitchen. Not good. Got it off okay, got a new one, put it in wrong, pulled it out and then broke one of the wires. Grrrr. Then the other one's bottom screw wouldn't go back in. I shall probably have to call the electrician to fix them. It really irritates me that three of them have gone out. So, many bad words were spoken.

That's about it. Skyping tonight at 10.

Oh, watched last episode of Top Gear last night, 2nd part anyway. Sad to see it go. Really defined my viewing and writing style, it did. They did a decent job of it, just May and Hammond introducing things in the empty studio. . . .except for a big plastic elephant in the room, which I thought was a nice touch. And then at the end of the program, they just said "Well. . .good bye."

15 July 2015 (Wednesday)

On this day in 1953 (Wednesday):
Put a different battery into my Plymouth this morning and then tool some [pistons] down town to be [dustgrad]. Worked some on the old Dodge today and cleaned up the yard a little also. Took the Plymouth tonight and went out and picked up Jim and we drove around town most of the night. $1.00. Got myself a couple of car [minutes] $.50. Pictures developed $.60. Got home about 1:00. Spent $2.10.
No Barbara for quite a while now. . . . .

I managed to sleep a little better last night. Until 4:15, but was awake some of the night. *sigh*

Anyway. Had a really good workout, went downtown, worked. I think I have gotten most of the initial cytology diagnoses figured out. There are a bunch of duplicates left, ones that are either on the same day and have different results or are on slightly later dates, etc. I should be able to almost finalize those tomorrow. I left around 1:30 to work at home. Bus was way late so I took another one to the U District and then almost missed the late one a little behind it.

I dunno, nothing much else to say for today.

14 July 2015 (Tuesday)

On this day in 1953 (Tuesday):
Left our Motel about 9:15 this morning and drove up town and got some seat covers for the Dodge. Started home from Portland about 12:00 and got here about 3:30. Put on the front seat covers when we got home. Went over and saw Shirley for a little while and then went to a show at the Roxy. $.50. Drove around town a little while in the Dodge but got home about 11:30. Got to bed about 1:00. Spent $.50.
I had an interesting day. Sadly, it started around 3:45. Grrrrr. Oh well. Contacts felt fairly okay though. Had a really good workout. Stewart is ill with a cold. I stayed away. Got downtown okay, working was kind of boring though, still trying to work out the dates. I think I actually may have mostly go it although we will almost surely have to reimport all of the files.

Now, I had sent my old girlfriend(?) Sonja a Facebook message yesterday morning and checked it before bed and she'd replied! I waited until this morning to send something back to her and then at work around 10:30 she sent something back while I was online so we chatted briefly in real time. She's been married, had a kid, divorced, remarried, and is now working in Green Bay. Is having migraines though. Oddly, even though I had really practically forgotten her, I was very touched to hear from her and see how she was doing. More so than any of my other (probably truer) Ex's. Hearing about her migraines really made me a bit sad. I am looking forward to hopefully seeing her next month.

Had our group lunch at work, too. Sat next to a pale skinny caucasian American Muslim who was fasting for Ramadan. Odd. Nice enough guy. Good to talk to Engi for a while. She's back (more or less) with her ex-fiance. I kind of think he probably hasn't changed but I trust her to make the right choice. Had croque Monsieur. Actually quite good, Engi had some of it, too. And I grabbed a $20 bill on the sidewalk on the way out! Woo hoo!

Walked to Riot Aid. Warm out, around 80 something.

13 July 2015 (Monday)

On this day in 1953 (Monday):
Started out from Ray's place about 11:00 for Portland. Got there about [7:00]. Called up Sid and then met him at the [siy] field. He showed up through the school and [ordained] the part of the [jet plane] to us. We got a motel for the night and visited with him there until about 11:00.
Odd night last night. I woke up at 4 but felt pretty okay. Had a wicked good workout although I felt d-a-i-d daid at the end. I came home and snarfed down bagels and did up the chicken and then headed for Cascadia. Didn't have much to do there, just a little bit of archiving and then I did Coptic stuff the rest of the morning. Bob came over and got the Tarte stuff so it's officially out of my hands now. Yay!

I got a mocha on the way over but it was like half foam so I stopped at the Safeway and got a little thing of milk, too. I left there around 11:40, went for lunch at NGate, and walked to the bank to exchange the $20 Canadian we found. Took 10 minutes and they had to deposit it, not just give me cash. Yeesh. Dropped the old printer from Cascadia at the Goodwill and then came home and worked some more. Date problems with the cytology again. I think I have it figured out though. Went to the store to get some Arby's Curly Fries from the Safeway! It is (unbeknownst to me) National French Fry day anyway, but I made those for dinner. Hee!

Went to UVil to get bagels and such. Criminy.

Eyes felt pretty good today, better than yesterday at any rate. Maybe they're work out.

12 July 2015 (Sunday)

On this day in 1953 (Sunday):
Got up this morning and rode down to the church with Dad and then brought the Dodge back. Worked and polished the car and [slow] cleaned up myself. After dinner we drove over to Ray and Lola's. Sat around and watched Television until way late. Went into town for a while before going to bed. Spent about a $1.00 at the [Amusement] Center. Got to bed about 1:15. Spent $1.00.
I camped out in the back yard last night and loved it! I was really hoping for some rain -- there's little in life as pleasant as rain on a tent knowing you're nice and dry -- but maybe a few sprinkles. Of course, I went right to sleep and then immediately started dreaming that someone was trying to get in the tent. But then I slept really well the rest of the night. Got up around 4:50 and went inside. I do sleep well in tents. First time in months I slept in the same location all night.

I made potatoes and scrambled eggs this morning; I am going to start making different things for breakfast besides scrambled eggs and toast, fried eggs and toast, pancakes, waffles, and oatmeal. I was going to wash and wax the Civic but decided to write a post on Top Gear instead which took most of the morning. Not too bad, but I had difficulty finding a good story for it so it's not my best.

We went to McD's for lunch and then the usual UVil stuff. When we got back I washed the Civic (no wax) and ended up chatting with the neighbor for quite a while. Kei. (Key), she's Chinese, her husband works at UW as a prof and they have the most wonderful daughter Sonia. Or Sonya. Very pretty, very personable even around adults, great kid. Also needed to add oil to the Civic, hope it hadn't gotten too low, I never even thought about checking the oil on it. Not like mine.

What else. Not much. Made pizza tonight, too much sauce. Walked around Laurelhurst after getting a quart o' oil at the Safeway.

Played my trumpet a bit this afternoon. I love playing that thing.

11 July 2015 (Saturday)

On this day in 1953 (Saturday):
Worked on the old Dodge most of the morning and after dinner [a slept] a little. Went by and picked up [kin] and then went to work. Sure was a drunk crowd there tonight. Saw a good fight between George [Herepines] and [Janis] tonight. Got home and in bed about 2:15 this morning. $.30 pop. Spent $.30.
Decent Saturday all around. I slept in the bed without waking up until 3:30(!) and then went to the other room fully expecting to stay awake but I ended up going back to sleep until 5:30. Was very tired yesterday. Even the Spousal Unit was up before 6 this morning. Ate in. I cleaned up the TV/cats' room this morning and swept the floors. I spent some time in the TV room afterwards listening to a Stevie Ray Vaughn CD on the Yamaha and Advents in there; they sounded really great. I do so love having this old stereo equipment around. It doesn't sound as good as modern stuff, but it's not that big of a difference and I get a kick out of having this stuff from my youth still around and in good working order. I have many old things: Car (1978), bike (1975ish), stereo (1980), Advent speakers (1973ish). Some things I just like keeping around, others not so much. Like car stereos I am always replacing.

Anyway, we let for an estate sale (went to it yesterday) around 11:15 and had lunch at NGate. No? Yes, went to a place called 5 Guys Burgers. Very basic stuff, it's the new hip burger place. I had a hot dog which was quite good although they put mushrooms on it for some reason, and they don't have kraut. But good. Then we went to the PetsMart and a new big asian grocery store where I got some ramen. Don't like seeing all the fish and lobsters and stuff in the tanks. Over to Spam's Club where I ordered contacts, although mine felt not great all day today. So I only got 6 months' worth. It's nice not having to use reading glasses, but they haven't felt as good as my normal ones. Went to Lowe's and got some landscaping junk and had a donut/cake at the Krispy Kreme there. Once home we cleared out the strip between the rock wall and the sidewalk and put bricks along the sidewalk and put mulch in there. May need to reset some of the bricks, I want them all about 1/2 inch above the walk.

Didn't do much afterwards. I set up the tent in the basement and plan on sleeping out back tonight. Just for kicks. I hope it rains.

10 July 2015 (Friday)

On this day in 1953 (Friday):
Got up this morning and started to work on the old car again. After dinner I went out and helped Jim [load] some boxes and then he came in and helped me [time down] the old motor. Took him home about 5:30 tonight. $1.50. Got home about 11:00. Had a pretty good time. Gas $1.00. Spent $2.50.
Am very tired tonight. Our Skype meeting went until 11 mainly because there was much going on and Sharon is over there now. Then I had trouble getting to sleep and then woke up a little after 4. I drank soda and had pasta last night so I had a really great workout this morning. Talked to Monny (hot Iranian broad) at the gym some; turns out she's a pharmacist at Hall Health. I rode my bike in and the tire held up both ways. Kinda of cold this morning though, but I didn't wear a sweatshirt either way. Rear brake acted up on the way back a bit.

I went to Cascadia after scarfing down bagels and finished all of my projects. Just waiting for Bob to pick up the Tarte compound material and then I'm done with it. Only stayed there until about 11:30. I went to NGate after that and had lunch at the Panera. I stopped by an estate sale on the way back -- nothing really interesting, although lots of kind of cool stuff -- and then came home for a bit. I headed down to the UVil and had a beverage for a little while before going to the QFC and getting some fish for the Spousal Unit's dinner (I had leftover BBQ). I got home a little after 3 and made a rhubarb cake; turned out rather well. Not like my mom used to make though.

Also played my trumpet some. I really look forward to it. It's nice to be able to make progress from practicing and actually see improvement. Since I'm not playing school band music it's far more enjoyable to learn how to do different things on it. I'm really drilling down and working on my tone. I don't mind playing the same few notes over and over with my eyes closed trying to get just the right sound.

Just walked around here. Was cloudy all day and only 70.

9 July 2015 (Thursday)

On this day in 1953 (Thursday):
Got up early this morning and got the [barn door] the first thing this morning. Work on the old Dodge for a while and washed and polished and cleaned up my Plymouth. Went out and picked up [figor] and we drove around town about all night. Saw some good [piglets]. Got home about 1:00 this morning.
So I just spent another half hour trying to get my stupid Mac to connect to my stupid phone. WHY IS THIS SO DIFFICULT? This is not 1995 anymore, these stupid [insert long string of foul language] machines should be communicating effortlessly by now. This.Should.Not.Be.A.Problem. I swear developers don't even test their crap anymore.

Just in case anyone from Google or Apple is trolling around looking for mentions of themselves: You Both Suck.

Calm down. . . .calm down. . . . .

Anyway, I slept very well last night. Drove to the IMA, had a really good workout, came back and worked all day. I thought I had the dates fixed but either I didn't or the dates in there are just bad. Probably the latter. Went to McD's for lunch, no biggie. Worked until 3:15. Went to UVil and got some dinner stuff, played trumpet for a bit. I tried holding it normally but it hurt. Had great fun playing though. I am really enjoying playing it again.

8 July 2015 (Wednesday)

On this day in 1953 (Wednesday):
Got up early this morning and started working on the old car again today. Worked just about all day. Drove around town with some of the boys tonight and went out to Jim's place and played around there until about 12:30. Came on home and got to bed tonight about 1:15. Got a good sun tan today.
I really envy this guy being able to work on his car like that. Probably more common then.I wish I had some of that.

Good news today: Michael and Grace think I should try for a grant and they think they can finagle some sort of appointment for me. Hope for a semi-academic career after all!

Anyway, I slept in three locations last night because the cats had the TV room couch. I actually ended up sleeping okay, albeit with assistance. I had a really good workout, too. Met with Michael at 10 and he seemed pleased with my work on the cervical stuff. So yay. What else. Mostly just worked on getting the city dates worked out, which I think I did by the end of the day. Bus ride home was uneventful. Walk was uneventful. But all in all a good day. My new Eddie Bauer shirt must look okay cuz I kept getting checked out. I should go buy more.

7 July 2015 (Tuesday)

On this day in 1953 (Tuesday):
Got up this morning when dad went to work and worked on the old Dodge taking it apart all day until about 7:30. Work about a half an hour on my Plymouth. Some of th boys came down to [help] and I [made angry tapas] with them for a while tonight. Got to bed about 11:45.
Typing this without reading glasses and seeing the screen clearly. I went to the Target to get my prescription to take to Spam's Club but I asked the (adorable) counter person if I could try another pair of the 'bifocal' lenses and she said I could be refitted for a different brand to try them out. So I did and these feel pretty good. I think they work better than the other ones, too. Gonna wear them for a week or so before taking the plunge.

Anyway, I slept really pretty well last night. Had a good workout although for the first half my mind was wandering. Still no back problems. Oh! Did I mention yesterday about the big crash we'd heard but couldn't figure out what it was? Yeah, my bike's back tire blew out again. Sheesh. So I didn't ride in this morning, I took the car with the expired permit and parked it facing away from the lot so whoever was checking would have to get out and go around to see the actual tag. Worked! So I stopped at the shop and got two new ones this afternoon. Only took about 10 minutes to change it, too, I'm getting good at it.

I went to the shop around 8:30 and got most of the Tarte stuff prepared. So that can go out soon. Met the Spousal Unit for lunch at NGate and I walked over to Target while she did some clothes shopping. Went to the parking office after that and got a new pass, and then to the FedEx place by UVil and copied the papers from the Tarte site. And then home. I copied files to CD while here, besides doing the tire and then played my trumpet for a while. I really enjoy playing that thing. Makes my arm hurt though. We just walked around here, although the Spousal Unit got pooped on by a crow while out.

Here's my new Facebook profile picture:

6 July 2015 (Monday)

On this day in 1953 (Monday):
[Change our tires] a good part of the day today getting parts for a drill dad is making. Ate dinner at Grandma's. Started taking the old Dodge apart this afternoon. George and some of the boys came by tonight and I drove around town with them in their [Continental]. Got home about 12:00. Ate a bite and got to bed about 12:45. Gas $.50. Spent $.50.
I admit it: For the women's World Cup I was saddened to see the US win (5-2). I was rooting for the Japs just so Hope Solo wold have to whiiiiiiiiine about it being someone else's fault.

Oddly, I slept really well last night until 2:45 and then again until about 4:10. Darn it. Was tired but not too bad. I rode my bike to the gym and then left it there and went downtown. I wore shorts all day because it was supposed to be like 93 again but it only made it to 83. Jerks. Still glad I did because I didn't want to haul pants and shoes along. Well, maybe just the pants. Was kind of cold in the office though. I worked pretty steadily on the cytology results and found more problems. *sigh* That whole mass of data needs to be cleaned and covered to Access, both of which have to be done in tandem. Rode the shuttle back to the UW and then rode home. Ugh, was sweaty and tired and hungry when I got back. Went to UVil for a walk.

Must relate a dream I had, which will sound weird and kinda skeevy but there is a point to be made. At some point I was in a foreign country -- some combination of Egypt and Italy, I think -- and found myself with a young mildly Goth female with whom, in the context of the dream, I had some sort of close relationship. Not involving anything naked, but something sort of weirdly more than friendship (I also think in the context of the dream I wasn't married, btw, or it only occurred to me later). Anyway, at one point we were snugging up pretty close and I have to admit I felt rather outrageously happy at the time. After we had parted ways and she had gone off somewhere with her boyfriend (told you it was weird) and I was wandering around town, I woke up. Not sure she was supposed to represent anybody in particular, although she might have been an amalgam of the various young women I know from work and the gym and such; maybe Kathryn from Egypt last time who I quit like and is really about the only one I still keep in touch with. But whatever, really no one in particular.

I relate this because it reminded me of a dream I had many years ago -- really, I was probably 15 at the time -- which, because I remember it so strongly so many years later, had a huge impact on me. In that one I was dreaming (a very short dream, btw) that I was on a toboggan with a lovely brown-haired girl, she in front, I in back, and she leaned back against me and I felt the same way as this time, albeit more intensely: just a wonderful feeling of utter contentment. At the time I figured this was what "love" was supposed to be like, and thought that I was supposed to be looking for that feeling in a future mate. Have I ever? I don't think so, not even around the Spousal Unit. I have an inkling of what that felt like, and came close to it last night, but I feel rather sad that that particular dream -- at least in some form -- hasn't ever come true.

5 July 2015 (Sunday)

On this day in 1953 (Sunday):
After breakfast cleaned up the car. Had dinner at Carl's place today. Worked all day cleaning up the garage. Went down to the church to see Barbara tonight and I got a really nice unexpected Dear John [Here we go again. . .ed.] It sure gets me. I am one sad boy tonight. Came home about 9:30 and had a bite to eat and then worked a little while in the basement. Got to bed about twelve.
I sure hope this Barbara was either rich or a hot little filly for him to get coming back for more.

I slept wonderfully again, until after 5. Ate in. Went to Mass. Before we got started Fr. Basso made an announcement that a 14-year old had died Friday from cancer. Bummer. No funeral at Assumption though, so I won't have to volunteer. Which I would have although it would have been super crowded. On the way out a little cat was hanging out on the steps greeting everyone, so I bent down to pet her. She was there again this evening when we walked by and found she was indeed a neighborhood cat.

I didn't do much this morning, although when I got back from Mass I washed my car. I waxed it this afternoon so it is now gleaming. We went to UVil and ate outside. Spousal Unit bought some new sunglasses, and I was looking for a new string thing to hang them around my neck. My old trusty one broke at church, I must have had that thing for 20 years. I just ordered 6 from Amazon for $6.99. Same things, I think.

At home I waxed the car (Spousal Unit helped) and then made dinner, which was fairly bad fish, but not inedible. Walked. Didn't get as hot as they said it would, only 92/92 instead of 97.

4 July 2015 (Saturday)

On this day in 1953 (Saturday):
Went up to [Long] lake on a picknic[sic] went[sic] [Margie's]. Lee and I went floating and had a lot of fun. Went down to grandma's for supper when I got back. Didn't work to night[sic]. I just drove around. Saw Shirley for a few minutes gas $1.00. [pgs] today $.20. Got [by] and got to bed tonight about 12:15. Am a little tired. Spent $1.20.
4th of July! Turned out reasonably okay. I got out of bed and went to the TV room but couldn't get to sleep on the couch so I went to the floor and stayed there the rest of the night. I did sleep well, in fact. Not sure I ever covered up though. I guess I did at some point. Slept until almost 5. We went out for breakfast. I read a little on the steps when we got back, but didn't do much else. I dunno, I felt like not doing much all weekend. We left for Alderwood around 10:30, and went to the Kohl's up there so the Spousal Unit could ship for clothes, but she got nothing. Had lunch at Alderwood.

Stopped and got some sun shades for the Forester and then some pork ribs for dinner/supper. Then came home and I started the meat. I did a wonderful job with those, they turned out perfectly tender and moist with a chewy rind on the outside from the rub. I seared both sides and then wrapped them in foil for the rest of the 3 hours. Deeeeelish. I laid out in the sun for about 45 minutes, had to rinse off in the shower again.

Went for a walk. Pretty dull, but a nice day. Around 91 and humidity is only 16%.

3 July 2015 (Friday)

On this day in 1953 (Friday):
Took Grandma's[sic] to town to do some shopping this morning. After dinner I came home and worked the[sic] Dodge and worked on my Plymouth. Bought some shoe polish $.25 and some gas $1.00. [Skateland] $.55. Barbara stood me up tonight so I took Shirley out and had a good time. Went to the drive-in $.52. Worked down in the basement when I got home tonight until 3:00. Spent $2.32.
I've really wondered if he's normal for that time, staying up half the night. I guess I was kind of a night own when I was younger, although it usually involved drinking.

I put the AC in the bedroom last night and it worked great, although I was only in there for an hour and a half or so. Tried to go to the TV room but couldn't sleep in there, maybe too warm. I ended up downstairs and sept pretty well until about 4:15 when I woke up and had indigestion. Well, my stomach hurt anyway. So I got up.

Sat around until a little before 6 and then decided to take a shower. Made breakfast, was going to just make it for myself but the Spousal Unit got up. I went off to Cascadia for a while to get something done, ended up there until 11. We decided to go up Lake City to the Taco Time for lunch and then hit an Ace hardware in Lake Forest Park to find a mini box fan. They were out! Almost! I'd gotten another one when the Spousal Unit saw the one I wanted behind the counter so we got that one. I think we just came home after that. I laid out in the back for a while to even out my tan some, and was sweating so much I came in and rinsed off in the shower. Mostly sat around the rest of the afternoon. We went to NGate walking and I ended up getting some wife beaters (aka, tank top t-shorts) and we bought a set of pans cuz we needed an 8" one but they only come in sets. Harrumph.

So will turn on the AC at 8, that should cool down the bedroom enough, and put the new fan in the TV room window. 92 today.

2 July 2015 (Thursday)

On this day in 1953 (Thursday):
Got up this morning about 8:30 and went down to the Pendleton Auto upholstery shop and had me a pair of seat covers made for my Plymouth. $27.90. Left for Yakima about 12:00. Gas $5.00. Got home about 8:00. Went to see Barbara for a while tonight and drove around town for a while. Got to bed tonight about 11:45.
So much for the summer job, I guess.

I really slept quite well last night, most of it in the TV room and never covered up the entire night. Very warm out. Today it was 92, too, so probably the same tonight. I think we don't have a data meeting. We'll see. I'll wait until 9:30 or so, if I don't hear I'll assume it's not on. Julia is out this week, as is Rachel. Sharon and I can Skype any time.

I had a really good leg workout, too. I rode my bike in and didn't have to wear a sweatshirt on the way down. Worked at home, mostly getting the cytology data set worked up. The date problem has caused it to halt though, I can't do much else without knowing the correct dates. Or which dates are and aren't correct. Went to McD's for lunch, and quit about 2. I went to UVil to get some salad for dinner, came home and made all that up, etc.

The Spousal Unit is planning on sleeping downstairs and I think I'll move the AC into the bedroom for an hour or so to cool it down really well and then sleep there before moving to the TV room eventually. I am going to try to find a mini box fan for the window in the TV room.

We just walked around here tonight.

One thing: I was thinking today that I kind of appreciate not having a fully air conditioned house; it makes me feel more connected to the weather. But I like having the little AC unit so at least we're assured of one room that is comfortable. I guess I don't like it being too perfect? I think most of my life I've spent in non-AC'd living spaces.

1 July 2015 (Wednesday)

On this day in 1953 (Wednesday):
Didn't have any work today. Cashed in my field [cards] and got my money and am getting ready to [path] out. Called up dad this afternoon $1.00. Grocery $.50 Sold my tent to Dick today. Washed the car and got my things together. Getting to bed early tonight. Hope to get started some time tomorrow. [Has been] a restless day for me today. Spent $1.50.
Huh. I wonder if he didn't like the work or if there wasn't enough of it. He's only been out there a couple of weeks.

Another hot day today, 89. Forecast looks like it will be in the 80s and 90s for the foreseeable future. Just a big ridge of high pressure sitting above us. The entire coast really. Makes for great scenery for us guys, but it's getting a little on my nerves.

I managed to sleep okay. Actually quite well, and only in two places! I was telling Rowena (at work) about my sleeping habits and wandering from room to room to sleep and she thought it was funny. Really, a few times I've slept in four different places in one night.

Had a really good workout this morning, no gym on Friday so I did a lot of different upper body stuff. I watched a bit of Rocky II last night so of course this morning I had to work out really hard and do a lot of reps. Honestly, it should really be a part of my workout round (lots of reps) and I have been but not probably as much as I should.

Did the usual, rotunda for bagels and then downtown. Rowena who had sat nearby wasn't there on Monday nor today and I was worried she'd lost funding, but they moved her to a nice cubicle and she was out ill on Monday. That's good, she is really one of the few people to talk to there. I got quite a bit done, got the cytology Initial readings all figured out, but the dates are still problematic. Was very restless (both me and Clarence!) in the afternoon, I just wanted to stand up and work, tired of sitting. Oh, I didn't wear shorts. In retrospect, I guess I could have.

Ride home was uneventful. Walked to Ronald McDonald House to take some photos for some thing at the Spousal Unit's work (they knit hats for the patients there). That's about it.
