31 December 2014 (Wednesday)

On this day in 1952 (Wednesday):
Got up about 10:30 and went down to the church and helped dad until about 3:00. Ate at grandma's. After supper I went up & saw Barbara a little while. Drove around town a little while and went out to the hall to work about 8:00. Sure had a rough night. Had about 700 people. Worked until 1:30. I think I was the only sober one in the whole crowd. They about tore the place to pieces. Went to bed about 2:30. Am about dead tired. Gas $1.00. Eats $.50. Spent $1.50.
Monthly spending $33.60.
TOTAL SPENDING OF 1952 $394.79.
That works out to $3,518.12 in 2014 dollars.

So, last day of the year. The day went okay, I guess, although it started out rather dubiously at 3:15. Wasn't worried or anything, I just woke up and couldn't get back to sleep. I didn't try using assistance since it was kind of late for that, but I probably should have. Went right to work and started on the report, although I later found out I could just do a letter report which shortens things up considerably. So I worked until 11:30, with one trip to SBux with Janet. Met the Spousal Unit at NGate, and then drove to UVil, parked, and walked to the IMA. Not a bad workout. Walked back, tired, almost fell asleep a couple times. We walked at NGate for a while but they closed at 7.

So, 2014. It was better than most years of late. I graduated to project manager for archaeology, and am on the verge of getting my first global health paper published. I made a lot of progress in both places over the year. I am more confident in CRM archaeology, and have at least started to establish myself more in GH. I did a paper at the ARCE meetings in April which I really am proud of. And it was good to see some of the KeH people again. I really felt good about that.

Did I go to Kenya? Yes, I did. That could have been better all around, but it was good for me and I at least did a presentation there. It was interesting.

I lost some interest in college football this year, although that was ongoing. It's just getting too NFL-like for me. Too much glitz and hype etc. I won't even watch a whole lot of it tomorrow, I don't think.

I did very well working out. Few injuries and I really gained some bulk and was stronger and had a better overall shape than maybe I've ever had. And I've started to get my back straightened out, thanks to the Fitness Model (and looking up the hip thrust exercise on the web). And the blonde for the front squats. So I'm hoping to continue that in 2015.

Bought this new computer too. My first new one in probably 10 years. It's working out well.

Anxiety-wise, yeah, I made a lot of progress. I may have gotten over a major hurdle in the last few weeks, leastwise I haven't been going through it a lot. Whether that's due to steely-eyed determination and discipline, divine intervention, or simply the valerian root kicking in, I don't know. But I'm keeping up everything that I'm doing.

And, wow of all wows, I saw Laurie again. If anything put that in the Win category it was that.

Good year, all around. I'll put it in the Plus column.

As for 2015. . . .I think I shan't record all of my spending. If I make one "resolution" it will be to pursue funding at GH with more determination and time and imagination.

30 December 2014 (Tuesday)

On this day in 1952 (Tuesday):
Got up about 9:00 and went down to the church and helped them take out the old pipe organ. Worked there part of the day. At at grandma's. Got my self a new '53 calendar this afternoon $.50. Picked Barbara up about 7:15 and we went out to [gensomes] for a party. Had a lot of fun. Brought Barbara by the house for a little while before I took her home. Got in about 12:00. Spent $.50.
I had a pretty decent day. Same old, same old sleeping though. But I felt okay today. I went right in to work and mostly fiddled around until around 9:30. Janet and I went out to mail something and I got a mocha, but then I started working on a new report, for the monitoring job that I didn't do. Should be pretty quick, they didn't find anything but fill. I left about 11:15. Met the Spousal Unit at UVil for lunch and then walked over to the IMA and biked for 45 minutes. Decent workout.

Walked back and met Engi. She looked great! She lost some weight and was really quite attractive. Her former finance is trying to get her back, I hope she doesn't take him. It was nice talking to her.

Came back home, fiddled with guitar some, watched football. Grrr, Notre Dame won, stupid moron LSUs. I used to like ND, but not any more. But hey they won a bowl game so they'll probably be ranked 5th.

We just walked tonight outside. Cold.

29 December 2014 (Monday)

On this day in 1952 (Monday):
Got up about 8:30 this morning and started shoveling snow of[sic] the sidewalks. The rest of the morning I spent cleaning up the house. Had dinner at grandma's. Ron came down a little while this afternoon. Went up and saw Barbara about 4:00. Took her down to the library and there we came up to my place and stayed until about 8:00. I then went to supper and picked her up again about 8:30. She stayed here until 10:30. Spent $.60.
I had a reasonably decent day. I think I've gotten into a pattern at night though, same thing for four nights: Sleep until probably 1 and then wake up all wired. Hmmm. No panicky attack stuff but it's kind of irritating.

Anyhoo. I ended up sleeping okay, albeit with assistance and on the floor. Again. I decided not to shower this morning as I was going to the gym this afternoon and my skin has been getting dry with this showering twice a day. Sadly, I, ummmmmm. . . .neglected to put some new undies in the backpack and so I've worn the same pair two days in a row! Eeeek!

I spent most of the morning finishing up the one report and chatting with Randall about the Lillquist mess. We're probably going to have to decide how we will confer with DAHP in the future. I've been doing it all along with this other big project and we've been working things out pretty well. So we'll see.

Ha. Janet was trying to say "anything to break up the monotony" but got combobulated and said "monogamy" instead. I got a good laugh out of that one.

I went to lunch at McD's with the Spousal Unit and thence to the gym. The Fitness Model was there and I almost didn't recognize her because she was wearing. . .a t-shirt! Usually she's in a spaghetti strap tank or something. Heh. Had a decent workout though. I didn't go to SBux on the way back, just went home. I worked on my paper a bit (finishing touches) and got rid of the Xmas tree, so the holidays here are d-u-n dun. Fiddled with guitar some. We went to UVil to get a milk and ended up with a bunch of stuff. Cold today, but sunny, similar for the next few days.

28 December 2014 (Sunday)

On this day in 1952 (Sunday):
Slept in until about 10:00 and then Barbara called up and persuaded me to come to church. After church I went down to grandma's for lunch. Drove around with Ron most of the afternoon and went down to [Wendell's] and had some pie and coffee. Ate another dinner down at his place about 3:00. Went to young peoples and church with Barbara. Had our biggest snow this afternoon and evening. Drove around a little after church. Gas $.50. Spent $.50.
I had kind of a weird day. I slept reasonably okay, the latter half on the floor and assisted. No big worrying again, just kinda wired up. I didn't go to Mass because I was tired and sleepy anyway, but I needed to do some serious cleaning around here. The Sacrament of Cleanliness, I call it. I did take a nap around 8:30 though. Which was good.

I cleaned up, did a few other things, and then we left for the usual UVil and shopping etc. Nothing special there. We had some trouble deciding what sort of food to buy though. Weren't that many people though because of the SeaChicken game at 1:30. Saw a person in line at the Safeway with a Green Bay jersey on so I had to mention that. Both of them won, so GB and Seattle both get a bye week, which is good for GB because Rodgers has a bad calf.

I didn't watch much of either game, just bits and pieces, as I was busy taking down Xmas lights and other things. It was cooooold and a bit rainy while I was doing that, but they're all down, save for the tree which is going out tomorrow. I had to go on the roof and clean out a couple of the drains, too, so my fingers were just wicked cold.

When I came back in I called my brother's house (Maryland) to talk to everyone, but only he and my mom were there. All was well there. Uncle Hank is apparently not doing well though, mom said he doesn't know who she is anymore, and doesn't really know who his wife is most of the time. It's so sad. It's the first real dementia case in my immediate-ish family. Whoever is reading this, now or in the future, please say a prayer for him and his wife.

I stayed in this evening instead of walking because I had to do yet more cleaning and such. The usual Xmas madness around the house, plus I really want to clean up all of the flat surfaces. We tend to put junk on any flat surface, so that it all looks cluttery. Not Hoarding cluttery, just not neat and tidy.

27 December 2014 (Saturday)

On this day in 1952 (Saturday):
Ray and Lola left this morning. I had breakfast at grandma's this morning. Ron helped me change a flat tire on my car this morning and then ate dinner at grandma's with me. Drove around most of the afternoon until supper. Call Barbara up from down town just before I went to work. Had a big dance tonight got home about 1:15. Am a little tired. Tel. $.10. Pop $.10. Spent $.20.
I seriously half thinking about tracking all of my spending in 2015. I'd kind of hate to see the actual numbers though. I wonder if he plays his instrument for a band on Saturday nights to does something like wash dishes.

I slept okay last night albeit with some assistance in the middle of the night. Wasn't worrying or anything, just kind of wound up after going to the TV room. We ate in -- leftover ham, and eggs -- and then the Spousal Unit made some goodies for the hair cutting people. I walked up to Safeway for some baking supplies and a mocha because my stomach felt kinda icky after breakfast.

What else. Brought in the vacuum and cleaner and checked the cleaner's filter. It had some junk in it but nothing I thought would keep it from sucking. So hmmm. We left for the hair place around 11:10, turned out I didn't have an appt. (which we figured) so I chatted with a nice youngish lady for a bit and then went to the Bookstore. When I came back Jacquie said she'd do mine next since she didn't have an appt. after that. So I got mine cut. We went to Pagliacci's for lunch and then went to the Kohl's and Target in Redmond. And DQ. AND we crossed the 520 bridge for the first time since the tolls went up! I kind of didn't like it but now on the weekend it's almost pricier to go around than just go over. So meh.

When we came home I just fiddled with my geetar for a while and watched football. I find myself kind of rooting against the Big 10, if only to maybe get some sense into their heads that it's just not a strong conference anymore and that they either need to seriously do something about that or stop going to bowls games as much. Kind of hate that. But I'm almost losing interest in college football somewhat. I dunno, it's become too much NFL-lite. So who knows, maybe I'm starting to get over it.

We walked up to Bai Pai on 65th for dinner, had some sort of curried beef thing which was deeeelish. And black rice pudding. Then we walked back via Safeway for buttermilk for breakfast, if needed.

26 December 2014 (Friday)

On this day in 1952 (Friday):
Slept in until about 11:00 this morning. Mrs. Collins came over and visited with Lola this morning. Got another Christmas present from Shirley this morning a nice watch band. Drove around town with [a pon] some today and let him have the car for a little while this evening to go see his girl friend. Went to the basket ball game with him. Yakima played [Syle] beat them by one point. After the game dropped him off and picked Barbara up from where she was baby sitting and stayed out with her until 2:00. Gas $1.00. Spent $1.00.
I slept until 5 again this morning although when I went out to the other room I was kind of wound up and had to have some assistance getting back to sleep. Spousal Unit was up before 6 though. We ate in and then piddled around most of the morning. I thought I needed to take a nap but couldn't fall asleep. I fiddled with the vacuum and the shampooer for a bit; the former's belt was off but I couldn't figure out how to get it back on. We took those to a vacuum store and the nice lady put a new belt on for me. The guy said the Bissell was sucking so it must have been something in the filer that was clogging it. So I need to look at that tomorrow.

We went over to NGate to look for a case and screen cover for the Spousal Unit's new Kindle Fire (negative), and had lunch there. She dropped me off at the gym and I did my usual workout. The Fitness Model was there but I didn't acknowledge her. I mean, she didn't want to be acknowledged, so I didn't bother. Some women are like that down there, others aren't.

What else. I walked over to UVil but the usual SBux was jammed up so I went to the other one (jammed) so I went to the one in the QFC quick, and then walked the rest of the way home. I like the fact that I'm 52 and can work out for an hour, walk 15 minutes to one place, and then another 25 minutes up and down hills home. I hope I can do that when I'm 70.

Instead of taking down the Xmas lights when I got back I played with my guitar. I learned yet again from something on the TV yesterday that if one repeats something over and over again it creates new pathways in the brain that eventually lets you do it as second nature. That's what they mean by 'muscle memory'. So I will keep at it.

Walked to post office to mail a bill.

25 December 2014 (Thursday, Christmas)

On this day in 1952 (Thursday, Christmas):
This morning Ray and Lola and all of us went down to grandma's to open our presents. I got 2 shirts and 3 boxes of candy, [shopaper], a tie from Shirley and a tie clasp from Barbara and some stationery from Ray. Had a big turkey dinner. This afternoon we worked on Ray's car. It wouldn't start this morning. Needed a new ignition. After supper about 7:30 I picked Barbara up and took her to a show at the Capitol. Got out of the show about 10:30 and parked until about 2:00 this morning. Ray and Lola are staying with us tonight. Show $2.00. Spent $2.00.
Well, I hope he got something done between 10:30 and 2 IYKWIMAATTYD. . . . .

Just got back at about 8. We left a little before noon thinking we might eat a little lunch at McD's (web site said it was open today) but it was closed. I got a Bose Bluetooth speaker ($$$) and appear of fingerless gloves. The latter seems odd, of course, but my old pair of leather ones are kinda shot. Fiddled around cooking and junk the rest of the morning. Got down to the in-law's around 1 and ate various stuff until 3:30. The others didn't arrive until after 3 so it was nice and quiet. I actually kind of enjoyed it this year, oddly. I think because last night in the middle of the night I sort of realized that I'd most overcome this whole anxiety thing. Not that I'm "cured" of it, but I think I've managed to focus enough on other things to tamp it down like it was when I was in school and such. For me, that's as good as 'beating it'. So f*** you, anxiety.

Best thing I got from the extended family was. . . . .a brush arch for the cats! I was going to get it for them, but they did instead. Heee! I don't know if they like it or not yet.

My goal for the next year is really to just continue on the path that I'm on. Finish strong.

24 December 2014 (Wednesday)

On this day in 1952 (Wednesday):
Shirley called me out of bed this morning to talk on the phone about 10:00. Ron called up about 10:30 and I went up to his place for a while and then went down town and did some Christmas shopping for Barbara and Shirley. Got Shirley some stationery and Barbara a diary. [!! ed.] $1.50. Took Shirley's gift over to her and then drove around over [town] for a while. Ate dinner at Ron's place and supper at grandma's. Ray and Lola came over this afternoon and are staying with us tonight. Went up to Barbara's place tonight with her gift. Did a little drawing tonight. Gas $1.00. Spent $2.50.
Busy Christmas Eve for him. A diary for Barbara! Oh boy, would I like to get my hands on that.

Up and down day today. The IMA was open at 6 for the first time over break ever so I went down and worked out a bit first thing. I drove over to Cascadia, stopping by QFC for a bagel and soda on the way. I was first one there and Janet didn't show up until like 8:45. Randall shortly thereafter. I guess he was upset about the Lillquist thing after talking to her. Not at me, just the whole thing. Well, mostly at DAHP. Turns out I did talk to them, like she said, although it was definitely in the context of conferring with her (the client). So all in all, I don't feel bad or anything. I told everyone the same thing, told everyone what I was doing, etc. Mostly it's DAHP's fault.

ANYway. I worked on the Tarte thing for the most part, ended up getting the new emergency excavation permit going, but had to work on it until 11 (I was going to leave then). It will get out this week I think. Am working with the same person at DAHP who threw me under the bus with the above stuff, but she's been reasonable. And I think I wrote earlier that she complimented us in front of these other clients. So, I dunno what we will do.

But I finished all that and then went home and we went on our annual pilgrimage to the zoo. I almost didn't go but I'm glad we did. Very few people there, so it was nice and quiet. The tree kangaroo was jumping all around -- never seen him moving I don't think -- and some other critters were having fun. We went over to the farm exhibit and petted a cow and talked to the lady grooming them. One cow was standing around lowing, it was pretty adorable. One came walking over to us like he was going to get some pets, but then she started rubbing her face against this big brush type thing that happened to have a big blob of poop on it so she smeared poop all over her head!

Came home, cooked leftovers, and then drove down to where we used to live on 65th and 23rd and walked to Candy Cane Lane. Mostly the same stuff as always but still pleasant. The luminaria in that neighborhood were all out, that's very peaceful. It's hundreds of bags with candles in them lining the sidewalks for several blocks. Came home and will marathon wrap presents. I wrapped up the Spousal Unit's two gifts.

23 December 2014 (Tuesday)

On this day in 1952 (Tuesday):
Got up about 11:00 and Ron called up and I went down and had [tarnish] with him.Took his mother to work and then went down to the church and helped him a while. Let him have the car from 3:00 to 5:00 while I did some drawing at home. Went to a play and took Barbara down to the church about 7:00. She was in the play. Afterward we went [skating] and then came back to a party at the church. Drove [balls] party but I didn't get her in until 2:30 this morning. Gas $1.00. Spent $1.00.
It's raining heavily at the moment. Didn't start until around 4 this afternoon but it's been raining steadily ever since. Getting colder, too.

I slept well again last night (go me!) and stayed around here working on a report until about 8 and then headed downtown. Well, via a stop at the UDist for a mocha. Did some mods to the paper, met with Michael, went to see Lisa for lunch. Next year we will have know each other for 25 years. 25! We both started at the County in 1990. I remember chatting with her primarily because she was h.o.t. and had great legs. But she'd been to Egypt, was very personable, and we've been friends ever since. I'm not sure we've missed a Christmas lunch and gift exchange for most of that time, and still do birthdays. Odd that. We probably actually talk about 4 hours a year!

I learned via the Spousal Unit via her daughter that Norma across the street "has a soft spot" for me. Let's hope she has a bundle of money somewhere with my name on it (or a mint '66 Mustang sitting in a garage somewhere).

Anyway, I came home from downtown and did some more on the report until about 3:30, made dinner, etc. Went to UVil for some Xmas food shopping and then I will do this and go watch football. And probably fiddle with the guitar some.

Monday, December 22, 2014

22 December 2014 (Monday)

On this day in 1952 (Monday):
Slept in until about 11:00. Got up and went out Christmas shopping today also. Spent $5.00 on gifts down to the church and helped Don set up for the play tomorrow night. Ate supper at grandma's and then went to play practice at the church. Took Barbara home [tonight] and me and Carl drove around a little bit and then I took him home. Did some drawing after I got home tonight. Got to bed about 12:00. Gas $.50. Spent $5.50.
I'm cutting him some slack and assuming school is out for winter break at this point.

I slept until 5 this morning after several wakeups. I went to Cascadia around 6:15 and got the excavation permit pretty much wrapped up and remembered I had to do the cover sheets with notarized signatures and what-not, so I did ours and got it out for the others to sign as well. Got all that done, went for coffee with Janet and got some more pet food. Forgot the little gift for Sarah the SBux barista so I'm giving it to Michael's family instead. Probably better ROI anyway. Also went to the bank (notary) and gas and Spam's Club. When I got back I took care of some more stuff and then left for lunch with the Spousal Unit at the McD's.

Went right to the IMA after lunch and had a decent workout (abs, lower back, and run/cycle). Ran too hard though, my lungs still hurt (stupid young female I had to pass *grumble grumble*). Walked back and stopped at SBux, although I probably could have done without, but the scenery was rather spectacular. My appetite has tailed off finally. Went home and got the permit app out and played geetar for a while and was pleased with how well I was changing chords. Really, I've made good progress in just the last few weeks, I think I may have crossed a threshold.

We went out to Fred Meyer to return something, get something else, over to UVil to gt another item and fish for tomorrow (and steel cut oatmeal for breakfast) and tooled through Laurelhurst to look at lights.

21 December 2014 (Sunday)

On this day in 1952 (Sunday):
Picked up Ron and went to Sunday school and church at the [Magazine] this morning. Ate dinner at Don's place and helped him down at the church until about supper time. Sat with Barbara this morning and she asked to sit with me in the evening service to[sic]. Picked her up after a party at [candaws] and took her home. We sat out in the car until 3:30 this morning. Got home and got got in about 4:00 this morning. Candy $.10. Pop $.10 Spent $.20.
Actually, I would express shock at the Return Of Barbara, but I'd seen her name pop up later on. Really, if they didn't end up married I would be severely disappointed.

I had a decent day. Slept reasonably well, although assisted and on the floor for half the night. I wasn't really worrying about anything as such, my mind was just racing. Don't know what time it was, I rarely look at clocks at night. But I even stayed half sleeping while the alarm went off for almost 25 minutes so I was really relaxed. Slept well enough that I went to Mass. Nothing interesting to report from there.

I came home and bottled my beer, and it went pretty well. I'd worried that it hadn't really fermented, but I tried some and it had, and it tasted quite good. So in a couple of week I'll have a full batch of beer again. I had to wash a bunch of bottles (well, like 8) and then sanitize them, etc. I think I can start futzing with the alcohol content if this goes well, as I think I have the ingredient amounts just about right, without using the liquid malt extract.

We just went to the UVil as usual today. Nothing exciting there either, I don't think. Had difficulty deciding what to eat this week. Had a yogurt outside, how nice is that? In December! Not that unusual, really. Anyway, we came back and I vacuumed out the Subaru and cleaned it up a bit. Changed the bedding. Changed the litter. Went for a walk over to the tree lot to see Juno the reindeer. She was practically running around her pen! Turned out it was feeding time. The Spousal Unit spent like 20 minutes with her and feeding her an apple.

Not much else to discuss. Didn't rain all day like they said, probably not a drop. Mid 50s, very pleasant.

Saturday, December 20, 2014

20 December 2014 (Saturday)

On this day in 1952 (Saturday):
Got up early this morning early[sic] and worked on the car the first thing. Picked Ron up about 9:00 and we went down to the Mormon church and worked most of the morning. Ron ate with me at grandma's today. I let him have the car this afternoon and I stayed at home and slept. Dad took me out to work tonight and Ron came and got me in my car. Thing went great [eat] at the hall tonight. Got to bed about 1:20.
Sure, he'll get up early on a Saturday to work on his car but not to go to school. . . .

Pleasant day today. I slept all the way until 5, although I work up several times (not that unusual, though I woke up more often than usual). We went out for breakfast because I ate a Twinkie and then had a sugar crash. Came back and I worked on a Car Lust Christmas post and watched a bit of football (bowl games started today). We left early (well, like 10 or something) to go up to Alderwood area to get some of the Spousal Units Xmas shopping done. She did well, didn't waste too much time.   I bought two new pairs of jeans, Levis again. We went to Kohl's and then Target and then an estate sale in a strip mall space (lots of cool stuff, but nothing I wanted to pay for), then got kind of lost (as lost as one can get with cell phone maps these days), ended up accidentally at the same Taco Time we went to last week. Ate there and then headed back homeward, stopping at an estate sale kind of around us. We bought a rug! An oval braided one. Good shape, but the colors could be better: some orange and brown, very '70s. But it's mostly to protect the carpet in the TV room. I tried shampooing it but the machine doesn't suck up anymore. May try to get it fixed.

I messed with the guitar for quite a while this afternoon. I hadn't played in like 3 days so it took a couple minutes to get back into it, but I'm really getting better at changing chords. I've kept saying that, but I really am making progress. Lately I've just been changing changing changing over and over and over to build speed and accuracy in my fingers and make it second nature.

We went to NGate for walking for more shopping. She did well again. I bought a new Xmas candle.

Watched a movie called The Lake House with Keanuuuuuu Reeves and Sandra Bullocks. For whatever reason I really like it.

19 December 2014 (Friday)

On this day in 1952 (Friday):
Slept in again this morning until about 11:00. Wen down to the church a little while and shopped around town some. Took Shirley home from school and went to supper at grandma's. Went and watched a play practice down at the Mormon church tonight. Ron and I drove around after it was over for a while. The Plymouth's gear shift broke tonight.
I'm guessing Shirley's parents probably aren't too thrilled about this ne'er do well she's hanging out with. I think he skipped school W-F this week.

I had a busy day. Went and woke up at like 3:45 although I stayed in the bed until then. Maybe closer to 4. I actually just laid there (on the couch) until 4:45 which was interesting; usually I get bored and get up. I almost dozed off though. But alas, not quite. I stayed at home and worked until around 8 to run the dishwasher and I didn't feel like going right in. Went in, got a decent bit done. Janet and I went to SBux and got some soders for the party tonight. Had several phone calls trying to figure out what to do with any human remains Mike finds almost every day now. They wanted them kept in a lock box on site, but we finally decided he word just collect them and drop them off at the coroner's at the end of the day.

Left at 11:30, had lunch (small) at McD's and then went to the gym for a while. Came back, had a smoothie at SBux, and then drove to the brewer's store and got some bottles and siphon hose and came back and decanted my mead. Went over to Cascadia after that. Had a nice time. They had Greek food catered in which was good. The mean went over reasonably well. Very strong but not as strong as I would have thought. Most of 3 750 ml bottles were emptied. Enjoyed talking with everyone, including newer people. I may do more of this mead stuff.

Anyway, pretty good day.

Thursday, December 18, 2014

18 December 2014 (Thursday)

On this day in 1952 (Thursday):
Slept in until about 1:00 and didn't go to school today. Went down to the church today and helped dad some. Dad and I came home this afternoon a[sic] fixed the brakes on the Plymouth. Shirley called me up and asked me down so went down to her place a little while before supper. She called up again about 8:00. Started on a drawing for dad of the church's watering systems. Worked on it until 2:00 this morning. Got a bite to eat and got to bed a little after two.
Another day skipping school. . . .

I just had a small sip of the mead I made back in April. Not bad. More like liquor than wine, but whatever. I wanted to test it tonight to make sure it wasn't rancid and that it wouldn't make people sick tomorrow.

I managed to sleep okay last night although it took quite a while to get there. I ended up sleeping on the floor the whole night, which wasn't half bad really; I'm getting used to it. In the sense of my shoulders aren't hurting afterwards.

Drive up was okay, had a close call with the police AGAIN; they pulled over the guy next to me. I was going to pass someone in the right lane, but stopped because this other guy was doing the same, and then we went past the copper. *whew* Well, he *was* going faster than I.

The first survey turned out to be easy peasy. Just 3 holes next to a house and it was all soft fill right on top of glacial so I was done by 11. I drove over to see the house and meet with the DAHP people. They were okay I guess. Good to finally meet in person. It was cold and rainy. We found some more human stuff laying around, too. So it looks like it will take quite a bit of work. I took a nap on both the ferry and in line when I got back to the ferry line. Got some lavender stuff. Rode back with the DAHP people and talked with them. Mostly uneventful drive home, too. Tired though. We went up to UVil for our walk because it is raining and had to mail something and get some stuff.

17 December 2014 (Wednesday)

On this day in 1952 (Wednesday):
Slept in until about 11:00 and didn't go to school today. Went down and picked up Shirley from school and took her home. [Trash] has mostly down today. Broke up with Shirley this evening [hegarss] I think she still likes [I nd] least seems that way. Sure lost a wonderful girl. Went to a music program at the high school tonight 7:30. Gas $.50. Spent $.50.
Well, no wonder, you skip school, get in fights, etc. I really am starting to think he's being affected by his mother's death.

I did not think today was going to be a good one, but it was. I went and woke up at 4, which wouldn't have been too bad, but I still felt tired. But mostly things went my way. Spousal Unit dropped me off for the shuttle and I thought I could never make the 6:15 one, but it was a couple minutes late so I did. And I almost didn't go get on it, I was thinking it was the next one and that maybe I should sit inside! Trip went well.

And DAMN IT, I opened up Michael's email from last week and saw the stupid paper he'd attached! I SWORE I looked at that email for an attachment and there wasn't one. Something's weird with this email. Anyway, there weren't that many comments, so I fixed most of them and then met with him at 9. Good meeting, he thinks we're very close to submitting. And I should have money next year (2015) so he was positive about that. Positive meeting.

Also chatted with Daisy who was sitting next to me for some reason. She's gained a bit of weight, but was still wearing a short skirt and heels which I found a bit odd. Worked there until about 12:15 (had a yogurt parfait for lunch) and then went to the gym. Saw two morning people leaving. Decent-ish workout, just did abs and ran/cycled. I finally talked to the amazon girl who works there. Name of Julie (totally fits) and she says they're going to do a survey to see about changing the break hours to maybe 6-1:30. Anyway, it was nice to talk to her.

I stopped by the UVil SBux on the way back for a smoothie (starving and tired) and saw Mimi Jung from channel 5. She is quite short but really gorgeous. Kind of a princess though. Had a call from the shop about a client wanting a monitoring plan submitted today, so I came home and did that and sent it off.

We just walked around here. I'm only doing this and then relaxing. Will probably do 1/4 ambien tonight to make sure I sleep. Consciously I'm not worried about tomorrow, but my head works in mysterious ways and I may end up worrying my ass off overnight.

16 December 2014 (Tuesday)

On this day in 1952 (Tuesday):
Took Shirley to school this morning. Stayed at her place a little while after school. Got a poor work ship[sic] in geometry. Took Shirley down to the High School when I had to play a [expsat] tonight. We drove around town a little while afterwards. Things didn't go very well with Shirley and I today. She seems very unhappy towards me for some reason. gas $1.00. Spent $1.00.
He seems to have gone somewhat downhill, I wonder if his mother dying really affected him without him mentioning it here. Seems to be getting in trouble a lot.

I let Miss Ambien guide my sleep last night and all was well. The Spousal Unit shoved me last night because, apparently, I was snoring. That was at 2 and I got out of bed then, winding up on the floor of the TV room and slept until 5. It.Felt.Great. I piddled around some before heading over to Cascadia and spent most of the morning being reasonably busy. Janet and I went out on a supply run (also a SBux, gas, and Lowes for Xmas lights run). I left around 11:30 and came home and had ramen for lunch before heading to the gym (IMA). I parked at UVil and walked over. Pretty busy, I just did some ab stuff, my lower back stuff, and then cycled for 30 minutes. On the way back I stopped into SBux and had a smoothie to rehydrate some. Came home and then the caca started flying.

Mike texted me some photos of some bones and I immediately recognized them as human, so I told him to have them stop. Sent them to the State guy (named, um, Guy) and then set about calling the San Juan Sheriff, etc., and figuring out what to do next. They'll keep going, just avoiding that area. The DAHP folks will go out Thursday so I'll finally get to meet some of them. Can't decide if I should go out with them or earlier. Probably earlier. So we'll see how that pans out.

Also change my meeting time for tomorrow from 2 to 9 so I will go in early and then hit the gym again tomorrow on the way back. What fun!

We went to Fred Meyer on Lake City for gift buying.

15 December 2014 (Monday)

On this day in 1952 (Monday):
Took Shirley to school this morning. She was not feeling very good and took her home about 11:00. Went over to see her after school until about 5:00. After supper picked up Ron Moore and took him out to see his girl for a while. Went to see Shirley again and then came home and did some soft driving school work I have to get in. Gas $.50. Spent $.50.
I really don't know what this "soft driving" is. Maybe it's studying about driving?

Well, I slept fine. . . .until 3:30. *grumble grumble* I had vain hopes that when I woke up it was around 4:30 at least, but it was not to be. At first I got up in a huff and threatened to STAY UP DAMN IT, but then I decided to lie back down and do some cogitating and such. Meh, finally got up again about 4:10. Blehh.

I made a steamed egg this morning. "Poached" in a little steaming pan, that is. I'm still on working out metabolism so it didn't even keep me until 8. And then a cookie. And then a mocha. Yeesh. Janet and I went to the QFC so she could mail a package and then I got a mocha there. I fiddled around until about 11:15 and then left to go meet Anne in the UDist for lunch. It was so good to see her again. We ate at a noodles place which was meh. I'm not that big a fan of asian noodles for the most part. Nice to talk to her though. I tried not to talk her out of getting a PhD. Heh.

After that. . . .I went to the hardware store for a tree stand and some c-clamps for the Santa in front. Those worked great. I got the stand figured out although -- I do so hate saying this -- I had to use a magnifying glass to read the instructions! Grrrrr. Then I went and got a tree. Took about 5 minutes on the lot. Kind of a dumpy one, in a goofy way, not in a haggard, thin, nasty way. I got it set up, sending the cats flurrying away, but 5 minutes later they were eagerly inspecting it. I got the netting off and filled it with water -- more flurrying -- and then another five minutes and Daisy had taken up residence under it. They love those things.

We went to NGate for our walk to attempt to find a black, white, or purple comforter but none of them were quite right. That was a bit of sarcasm. But it was pleasant enough walking around there.

Had some (more) controversy with the work up on SJI. Mike missed the first boat because it was full and then they were having a fit about removing a tree, so we had to conference call. Bob finally emailed back and said none of it was a big deal. He's about the only sensible one of the bunch (although I can understand the owner being really frustrated; it's his money after all). I think we got that worked out.

14 December 2014 (Sunday)

On this day in 1952 (Sunday):
Slept in until about 10:30 this morning. Shirley's brother got their car and got a girl and I took Shirley and we went up in the hills to cut some Christmas Trees. Bought our dinner $1.40. Got back about 6:00 and then we all went to a show at the Yakima $1.50. Got out of the show about 11:30 and then we drove down to the triple x and had some eats $1.25. I had my car [then] so spent a $1.00 for gas. I took Shirley's brother's girl home, we all sat out in the car about [and] half-an-hour and I got Shirley home about 12:30. Spent $5.15.
Busy day in 1952! The 'triple x' is a small chain of drive-ins, know for their root beer.

I had a fairly busy day. Slept quite well. I neglected to go to Mass as shortly before 8 this morning I sat down on the couch and went to sleep for like 20 minutes. Eh, I went last week. I did next to nothing all morning although I did write up an open thread for tomorrow. Mostly I watched the Packers do poorly against the Bills (ended up losing, too). We left a little before noon for UVil. Had lunch in a sunny window. Did the usual stuff, although after lunch my stomach was not feeling well so we went back later and got a yogurt. Yogurt place is something called "Menchies" and it's kind of a self-service thing where you dump the yogurt (all sorts of flavors) into the cup along with whatever toppings, and you pay by the weight. Felt better after that.

When we came home I commenced to putting our vintage Santa out. I eventually placed it above the garage door on a little framework ledge that supports a vine. I also put up the two little wooden reindeer that I salvaged from a barn a couple of years ago. I had to go to the hardware store for a couple of clamps to hold them up. It looks pretty nice, too. And it's covered so I don't have to worry about it getting all wet and junk.

We went over to see Norma today and she was doing well. I guess many people are all worried about her, but we're fairly optimistic that she could be around for quite a while yet. It was good to see her though, and we met her youngest(?) daughter. Then we walked up to the tree lot and fed Juno the reindeer an apple and looked at some trees. Still need to change the sheets tonight.

13 December 2014 (Saturday)

On this day in 1952 (Saturday):
Slept in late. Ate dinner at grandma's and after dinner I went over to Shirley's place and [went] and got a couple of buckets of coal for her mother. Worked down at the church some today and took Shirley to a show at the Capitol about 4:30. Got out about 7:30 and went back to her place and ate supper. Went to work about 8:30. Had the biggest fight after the dance I had ever seen. Had to call out about four sheriff's to get them [pristed] down. Show $1.80. Spent $1.80.
Well, some bad news today. Norma across the street has some form of cancer, multiple myeloma. She'd sent me an email (think I mentioned this earlier) about wanting to see us, and then her grandson sent one for her yesterday (that I only read today) so I was worried something was wrong. We don't know how serious it is yet; a friend of the Spousal Unit's has been living with it for over 10 years. But Norma's like 85 now. Whoever might be reading this, now or in the future, say a prayer or two for her.

Otherwise, I slept really pretty well last night. And unassisted! We went out for breakfast, and all I ordered was four strips of bacon and a soda. I ate most of the Spousal Unit's hash browns though. Since I won't be pumping iron for a couple weeks I'm starting to cut back on the eating already. My appetite will tail off in a few days anyway. I did some reading on pickup trucks this morning (want to write some pickup posts for Car Lust) and then we went out on errands. Sam's Club first, then drove up 99 to 196th in Lynwood and had lunch before going over to one of Marianne's estate sales (nothing I wanted, although there was a Sony receiver similar to my first one, although I don't need one) and then back to PetsMart. And Albertson's for some other stuff. And then McD's for ice cream! And then home! I swept the driveway and ours and the neighbor's sidewalk. Talked to Rob about Reyna's truck -- they're having to do massive amounts of work on it. No thanks. Still a neat truck though.

What else. Didn't do much else, but we went to UVil for our walk since the Spousal Unit had to do some Xmas shopping. We'll probably go to NGate tomorrow evening.

So, a reasonable day, save for the bad news. Cloudy this morning but nicely sunny this afternoon.

12 December 2014 (Friday)

On this day in 1952 (Friday):
Took Shirley to school this morning. Had a test in geometry. Took Shirley home after school. Her brother came home from the air force today about 2:00. Went to supper with them at the Golden Wheel had a chinese dish [Sringer] for show. After supper went back to Shirley for a little while and then I came home and got the Dodge and we went to the basket ball game. The Harland Globe Trotters against the House of David. The Globe Trotters won 88-30. Her brother bought the tickets and paid for the supper. Took them home and stayed a little while and ate nuts. Gas $1.00. [PER] Spent $1.00.
Brother must have been home for the holidays. I think maybe that was a 'Singer'. Neat that he saw the Harlem Globe Trotters.

I had an interesting day. Well, not that interesting, but a little busier than normal. Slept meh, I should have had a better workout than I did but I didn't feel like I had a lot of energy. I dunno. I came home and then went to Cascadia where I didn't do a whole lot but I kept myself busy until around 11:30. I went over the NGate for lunch and then checked out the 24-Hour Fitness to see if I could work out there for 3 weeks. Yeesh, expensive much? Cheapest I could have gotten off for was $100!

And I learned why I have stayed at the IMA for so long. It's not because I have an anxiety-driven need to stay at a familiar place. It's not the hot young undergrad babes (well. . . .). No, it's because I pay my money once every three months and then they leave me the hell alone! No offering personal training or other junk. Actually, with the few private facilities I've used I only really thought one was okay (The Vault).

Anyway, after that I went home and on the way Mike called from San Juan to say they'd dug out like three cubic yards of dirt at some point and a bunch of concrete AND took out a couple of trees. Lots of midden, of course, plus at least a couple of formed artifacts. Turned out that before they'd decided to rebuild someone dug up older the lower floor to see about utilities or something. So now we have to screen a bunch of it. Gadzooks!

I went over to the UVil and sat in the SBux for a while just to relax a bit. Came home and fiddled with guitar and made dinner. Spousal Unit didn't get home until after 4:30. We went to NGate to return some shoes and walk around. Not too crowded actually.

So meh, kind of a busy day. Interesting at least.

11 December 2014 (Thursday)

On this day in 1952 (Thursday):
Had a good size snow on this morning. Took Shirley to school this morning. Stayed after school about a half an hour for my [quintet] practice. Shirley waited for me and I took her home after school. Took Shirley to the basket ball game at the armory tonight. Yakima played [Mayfact] We [stay] by my [paint]. Played in the band at the game. basket ball game $.75 Spent $.75.
I think his name was Clarence! In the back of the diary I found an entry from January 11, 1954 titled "YOUTH LOSES RIGHT TO DRIVE" and it seems to be a transcription of a newspaper clipping. "Clarence C. *****, 18, pleaded guilty in a . . ." But I can barely read the last name!!!!!!! It looks like "Lyons" Darn it!

I had an odd day. Woke up in the middle of the night having a major attack, but I surprisingly went back to sleep rather quickly, albeit with assistance (and on the floor). And slept until the alarm went off. I had a decent workout, talked with the Wisconsin chick about Wisconsin's coach (Gary Andersen) leaving for Oregon State. Probably better for him but it's a pain for us. Alvarez will probably coach the bowl game. I only heard about it on ESPN this morning.

Anyway, decent workout. The front/hack squats are doing good things for my back, I think.

I went right to Cascadia and started in on things. Had a conference call with the Tarte people at 10:30 and found out they wanted to start today (ha) but will start tomorrow and it may take them two weeks. !!!! Mike is going to go tomorrow and also next week. Had to make quick preparations. He'll have to stay overnight all week. What a pain. I hope it all works out. Should be boring.

Did some other stuff. Futzed with the Compaq. Sent it home with Janet as her dad loves tinkering with that stuff. What else. Went to NGate for lunch. Left around 2 and came home and fiddled with guitar, did some other stuff until dinner. Walked outside. Supposed to rain and wind tonight but not much yet.

Watched a documentary on ESPN about Brian Bosworth. Pretty good. I kind of hated him back in the 1980s and he played for Seattle right after I moved out here. Seems he really turned himself around later in life which is a good thing.

10 December 2014 (Wednesday)

On this day in 1952 (Wednesday):
Took Shirley to school this morning. She did not feel to[sic] good this morning and went home at noon time. Stay after school on practiced in a Sax [quintet] until 4:30 and then went drive to grandma's for supper. After supper drove over the Shirley's place for a little while. Came home about 8:30 and worked on soft [driving] and English until about 11:00. Dad came home then and I got a hair cut and I shaved.
Okay, the big news is that I know who Shirley is: Shirley Noble-Betkel, born May 11, 1937:
Shirley was born May 11, 1937 in Yakima, Washington to Lisle and Leona Millette Noble. Married Donald Shuel, later divorced. Married Richard Betker in 1957. She was a faithful member of the LDS Church. Many people were the recipients of her talent in crafts and crochet dolls. The joy in her life was her five sons and their families.
Her birthdate and name were in the back of the diary. Is the diarist Donald Shuel? I read an entry for 1953 and he mentioned taking Barbara to school again, so maybe Shirley was a short-termer. Mormon, as I guessed. Well, it was nice to identify someone here at least.

Looking a bit more, I find Barbara Ball, born January 8, 1936.

Odd day. I woke up around 3:30, was about to get up and stay up, but decided to lay back down and just do some praying for a while, and ended up going back to sleep. Yay! I went to the gym and had a great workout, and was going to go straight to work but decided to stop by home to get my Cold-Eeze because my throat was scratchy and head a bit stuffy this morning. So I went over around 9 instead. I didn't have a whole lot to do but I tutored Janet on doing cost estimates and scope-of-works since she is bored. I found out she only took this job if it was full time so she's working 40 hours regardless of whether she has anything to do. That's fine, that was the deal. Just mentioning it.

I went out and got some mesh for the rain barrel and some more lights and 30 Krispy Kreme donuts for the Spousal Unit to use in a recipe before noon, had lunch, worked some more, came home. Really didn't do much all day. But I made some money. It was rainy and windy most of the day.

When home (around 2:30) I took care of some chores, made dinner. We were not going to walk outside as it was rainy and windy so I cleaned instead, but turned out it stopped raining for a bit so I went out and put up some of the new Xmas lights. Really pleasant today despite the weather as it got up to like 66 degrees.

9 December 2014 (Tuesday)

On this day in 1952 (Tuesday):
Picked Shirley up and took her to school this morning. Snowed most of the day we have about 3 inches tonight. Took Shirley home after school. After supper I took Shirley to a church [anchetall] at the Y.M.C.A. After the game drove around town a little while [bat gph] her home about 9:30. Stayed up until 1:20 this morning working on my soft-driving lesson. Am tired of [writing]. gas $.75 basketball game $.50. Spent $1.25.
That was probably a basketball game they went to.

I had a weird day. Didn't sleep really well, had a major attack last night which required two small doses of ambien. Yeesh. Ended up not being awake too long though. I had a decent workout, although I was kind of un-energetic throughout. It wasn't raining when I left the IMA, and the ride downtown was uneventful. I got right to work, but then at 9:30 I ran into Vivian in the hallway and I mentioned I thought I was meeting with Michael today but she didn't think so and I checked my calendar and it was tomorrow! (since postponed until next week). So I did some Cascadia work and some more on the paper and then left at 11. Anjuli continues to be friendly, and I think the turning point came when Anne came by before she left for good and gave me a big ol' hug and then the probably figured I was okay.

I went to lunch at McD's, came home and did a bit more work and then took the one Advent speaker down to Hawthorne Stereo on Roosevelt and they said they'd sell the pair and give me $105 for them, fixing up the one with the spot on it. So I came back, got the other one, and now they're there waiting to be sold. Glad to have the space and I am very happy with the ones I kept.

We went to UVil to get bagels and I got another free one. The questions were how many red stripes on the flag (7, a guess, either that or 6) and Oscar Wilde's quote "True friends stab you in the. ." (front). Guy said I was the first one to get them right that he'd seen.

8 December 2014 (Monday)

On this day in 1952 (Monday):
Shirley had a bad cold and stayed home from school today. I also stayed home from school today and stayed in bed. Went down to Shirley's place for about about[sic] two hours from 3:00 to 5:00. Stayed at home this evening all except for going down town a buying a magazine about 8:30 $.25. Went to bed early and read a book. Dad is doing some work on the car tonight. Spent $.25.
I'm vaguely thinking about keeping track of every penny I spend in 2015. I kind of don't want to know though.

Kind of an interesting day today. I went to the gym as usual but took my field gear with me. Sure enough, when I came back to the locker room I had 5 missed calls and while I was about the check the messages Mike from City of Tukwila called and wondered where I was. I said I'd be there ASAP and actually only took about a half hour getting down to Southcenter. Found them okay -- ate my bagels and Coke on the way -- and they just dug a 14' hole in a parking lot to check for water depth. That only took about an hour. It was, interestingly, all disturbed as I found some plastic and a wooden stake at around 12 feet. So they really tore that area up. Left there at 9:30 and actually used my Google Voice search to locate a SBux nearby! That was kind of cool.

Went home, got my stuff together and went to Cascadia. I piddled around getting a couple of projects planned and then Janet and I went to Hobby Lobby, Petsmart, and Jimmy Johns for my lunch. Ate that did some other junk, and left around 2. Andy the dog was going crazy there for a few minutes just having loads of fun running around the place and chasing a chew toy. It was fun to watch.

I did several chores when I got back, including picking up two branches from the back yard that had blown down. One was resting on the fence. Whenever there's a branch down on the fence the neighbors back there never do anything with it, we always wind up pulling it down and disposing of it.

Had to go to UVil this evening to cash a small check and get some stuff from the grocery store. It's raining anyway and will probably rain until Thursday. Saw a very nicely dressed lady at the QFC, nice gray short-skirted dress and neat tights. Not gorgeous, but I thought she dressed perfectly to her shape and showed herself off brilliantly. Just very attractive.

7 December 2014 (Sunday)

On this day in 1952 (Sunday):
Took Shirley to church this morning. Went down to her place for dinner. Her mother went calling for the church and so she cooked the dinner. After dinner we came up to the house and then we went to the show at the Capitol. After the show we came back to my place and then went to church down to [her] church. After church I took Shirley home and stayed long enough to have some ice-cream and cake. Show $1.80. Spent $1.80.
What a pleasant day it was all around. I slept well, albeit half of it on the floor. Jack was wandering around from when I awoke around 5 until after 6. Couldn't understand what he wanted, but we finally figured out that he didn't like the new litter (pine nugget stuff) and wasn't going to the bathroom. I dumped in a little of the clay litter and in he went. So we're going to stick with the Fresh Step and the weight and the dust. He didn't mind the scoop able stuff but we don't like it.

I went to Mass after taking a quick nap right beforehand. Pleasant service I guess, not memorable. No hot babes there, in other words. </shallow> When I came home I had my traditional Nestea iced tea and a partial bowl of Boo Berry cereal (dry). We'd had waffles for breakfast. I did a few things chore-related between then and 11 and then I went and took another short nap. Yeesh. Really I *did* sleep okay. . . . .

We just did the usual UVil thing. Had frozen yogurt afterwards. Went to the City Peoples' and whatever drug store is also down there. Goofy little store, kind of a more traditional Five and Dime.

When we got home I put the passenger seat covers back on the Mustang and then decided to take it for a short drive which turned into a longer drive after I realized it only had like 1/8 of a tank. So I went to the QFC on 145th and . . .15th? $2.43/gallon. And seeing as the Goodwill was right across the street. . . . .I bought a pair of Cambridge computer speakers ($5!). A rug there might be kind of nice for the TV room. May have to look at it again. I had to drive with the window open the whole time else the windshield would have fogged up (bad heater core). Even turning on just the floor heat would do it because opening up any of it sends some air up through the defrosters.

Did I mention Wisconsin got whomped 59-0 last night? GAWD. I hate to be cynical, but I really wonder if they threw the game so that Ohio State could get into the final four. I can't believe they could really be that bad. Well, Seattle beat Philly anyway.

We walked up to the Riot Aid for some mints. I loaded up monitoring gear in case I have to go out tomorrow. Pleasant day today, mid 50s and high clouds. We ate our frozen yogurt outside even.

6 December 2014 (Saturday)

On this day in 1952 (Saturday):
Slept in [until] late this morning but got up in time to take grandma shopping at [Saftuny] and then ate dinner about 12:30. Took Shirley down town about 1:30. Slept some this afternoon and went down for supper about 6:00. At about 7:00 I picked Shirley up and we [came up to the home] until about 8:00. Went to work about [eight thirty]. Got home about 1:00 this morning and got to bed [frisky finish]. Pop $.10. Spent $.10.
Wish I knew where he worked on Saturday nights.

I slept okay last night although I ended up on the floor again, though without assistance. I think I stayed in the bed until maybe 3. Had breakfast in. I started making a batch of beer around 8, then realized I didn't have a big enough pot, halted for a while and then realized I'd made the same amount before and that I could just boil a certain amount and add cold water for the rest. So I got done with that around 10. Went okay, although I shortened some of the times from the recipe. I don't think it will make a big difference. I did more things right this time and the last one turned out great. So it;s sitting downstairs fermenting away.

We went up to Alderwood so the Spousal Unit could get some gift buying done. Kohl's first, then lunch at the mall. Didn't go into the map apart from that either. We left there and went to an estate sale around Maple Leaf. Neat house. Probably some neat stuff, but nothing there I wanted. I think this one had aims neat audio equipment. Quick stop at home and then ice cream and Safeway. When we came home the Spousal Unit raked outside for a while and I errrrr. . . .well, took a tiny nap and then did a few little chores. Wasn't very hungry so we just made some rice and vegetables in peanut sauce for dinner. Too much sleep (actually just the right amount) and too big of a breakfast.

The Badgers are playing in the Big Ten championship game as I type. They were down 14-0 after the first quarter. The Spousal Unit wasn't feeling well so I walked by myself and had a good long walk. I took the iPod with me but turned it off after a block; I just wanted quiet. I walked a long way; it was fairly warm, partly cloudy, very pleasant. I may or may not watch more of the game, I feel I need a distinct lack of external stimulation right now.

5 December 2014 (Friday)

On this day in 1952 (Friday):
Went down to Shirley's place this morning to take her to school but she didn't feel like going. Left school after 5th period and went over to Shirley's place. About 4:00 we came over to my place for a while and then went down to pick up some pictures I had to get developed. Play for a basket ball game at the armory at 7:30 tonight. Yakima beat Wapato by about 10 points. Shirley had to stay home and look after her sister. Pictures $.50. Spent $.50.
I had a fulfilling day today. I slept okay, despite a rather nasty attack at like 2:30 but went back to sleep (with an assist) until 4:30. Had a dandy workout and talked to an older lady at the gym -- we've chatted a bit before -- who'd gone to UW Madison in 1968-72. Nice little chat with her. Oddly, lots of females down there today (this is the last day of classes). I went straight to Cascadia because the Spousal Unit was staying home ill. Got there first, put on my long undies before anyone else came in. I finished the excavation permit and then sent it off, did a few other piddling things, including checking out some monitoring I might have to do Monday. Then I mostly worked on the old Compaq computer. I opened the case and actually did some testing with the meter. I think some power supply output is bad. A little light on the motherboard flashes on when the power is turned on so I know it;s getting some power initially at least. I did that until around 2:30 (went to lunch at NGate), and then came home. I fiddled with the guitar for a while and was actually doing quite well. It's odd, some days I can do it well, other days it's like I just picked it up for the first time.

Had dinner, walked, etc. Nice evening, probably 45 and a little cloudy. Perfect winter weather.

So I felt good today.

4 December 2014 (Thursday)

On this day in 1952 (Thursday):
Took Shirley to school this morning. After school I took Shirley down town to get her watch band adjusted to her arm. Had to go to the dentist at 4:40. Took Shirley to potluck at the church tonight at 6:30. We left before the [surround] and came up to my place. I took a few pictures of Shirley and we necked a little while and then I took her home. Had a piece of pie at her place before I left. Gas $1.00. Spent $1.00.
Definitely so much for Barbara. . . .

I had a good day. I slept well and without assistance. Decent workout. Talked to an older chick there, she did a marathon last Sunday. I'll say one thing about her: reasonably attractive but she got better looking when she started wearing calf-length tights instead of the long yoga pants that made her look really skinny.

Came home, went to the shop, kind of a slow day. I got a report done and tidied up the excavation permit so it's going out tomorrow. Spoke with Stephenie, too, and I'm glad for that. It was nice to just talk things over with her so she doesn't think I'm an evil CRM person or anything.

I went to NGate for lunch and tried to find a calendar (Mr. Winkle) but couldn't. Went back and did some more stuff until around 2 and then came home. I went over to the home brew store and got supplies for the next batch of beer. Now that I know what I'm doing this one should go better. I'm going to try putting in less of the sugar and see if I can get the alcohol content down some. Making the same bitter I made a while back.

We went to UVil so I could cash my check. Warmer, like 50 and raining. Felt pretty good today.

3 December 2014 (Wednesday)

On this day in 1952 (Wednesday):
Took Shirley to school this morning. Had a honor assembly this morning aftr school I took Shirley down to her [unday] place and picked up her mother and then I took them down to the [feed] yard and picked up [every] and Took Shirley to church and then went and played a half an hour for a [unk] ball [elinst]. Pick Shirely up about 9:00 from church and took her home. Did some studying on English tonight.
Yeesh, that was a tough one to read.

Well, I had a very good day. All week, or ever since last week, I've been kind of down on global health, kind of not looking forward to going there, thinking I should forget about the whole thing for archaeology etc. Of course, I had a great day there today. Started out when I got in and Anjulie was there and was all chatty and friendly and wanted to know if I had a scissors (which I did!), etc. I worked steadily from the get go on the paper and think I got the Discussion done reasonably well. I went to Allison's KRP, talked to Laura, did some good reading on alkyhol, and when I left Anjulie made sure to say goodbye. So I was all up on global health again. Actually, my workout went well, the trip down went smoothly, etc. The ride home was, meh. Tons of high school kids got on, but that wasn't bad. You know, this whole anxiety thing really had me in a bad way. A few years ago had so many kids gotten on I would have been really uncomfortable. Like really worried that I looked weird or whatever to them. Worried about getting up and making my way through them. You know, weird stuff like that. Didn't mind them at all now.

I wonder if it's my latest epiphany (which I won't mention) or maybe the chamomile that I started taking again. At any rate, this has been a good week and one where I can really see how screwed up I really was.

We walked up to the Safeway and got a chicken and some other stuff for dinner. Ordered salads from Pagliacci for dinner.

1 December 2014 (Monday)

On this day in 1952(Monday):
Got up early this morning. There was about 2 1/2 inches of snow on the ground. Took Shirley to school and back home again. Took her mother down town and then went to supper. She came out with a birthday present this evening a bottle of after shave lotion. Went to bed early and did my geometry and listened to the radio. Talked to Shirley a little while on the phone also.
Had a bit of an attack in the middle of the night and slept on the floor most of the night. Don't think this valerian root is doing anything.

[Written on Dec. 2] Hmmm. Whatever happened, this post got cut off or something. I don't think I forgot about writing it, did I?

2 December 2014 (Tuesday)

On this day in 1952 (Tuesday):
Took Shirley to school this morning. The roads were like glass. Skipped a half a day of school and went down town and traded the ring in [on] Shirley a nice wrist watch. Pick her up after school and gave it to her then. Went down to her place a while before I went to supper. Went to bed early tonight. Shirley called up about 9:30 and I talked to her for a while. Gas $1.00. Spent $1.00.
Good news about the ring! I was worried Barbara had kept it. Dunno if he should be spending it on the new wench this early though.

Weird day today. Last night I tried having 2 chamomiles thinking it might make me sleep without having an attack, but I think it may have messed with my sleep instead. OTOH, it may have given me a boost; felt really good all evening and most of today as well. But I didn't think I got to sleep for a while, even after going to the TV room. Then I woke up at 4:15. I dunno, I didn't feel too bad though. I think I may have had something because I kept having to go to the bathroom every time I got up.

Had a decent workout. The towel I put on the windshield worked, although it still got some frost on it right away and I had to wait a bit until it heated up. I came home before going to Cascadia. Brought the newer space heater and my toy Indiana Jones whip. There wasn't actually much to do, but they'd arranged an SAA instruction on Section 106 so I watched that for 2 hours. Went to lunch at NGate and got some Frango's at The Bon/Macy's, one for Veronica and one for Sarah the SBux barista. I did a little bit after coming back, although I worked on the alcohol paper as well.

When I came home I fiddled on the guitar a bit. Made dinner. Wrapped and packed the Xmas stuff to mail and this evening we walked it up to the post office and sent it out.

Cold again, only 42 but it felt colder.

30 November 2014 (Sunday)

On this day in 1952 (Sunday):
Took Shirley to church this morning. After church her[sic] came with me down to grandma's and ate a birthday dinner with me. [Grandpa] and Grandma [sure] invited [rest] for dinner so we were all done. Shirley gave me a billfold for my birthday. Spent most of the day down at her place. Took her to church with me tonight. She came with me by the house a little while after church. We are have[sic] our first real snow this afternoon and night. Gas $.50. M.S. $25.10. Spent $.50. TOTAL SPENDING FROM JAN $361.19.
Methinks perhaps Barbara is definitely history. Hope he got his ring back.

Today was an odd day. I had an attack last night, so I broke tradition and had assistance. Slept on the floor, too, although with an extra light blanket since it was in the low 20s last night. And again tonight. I reiterate that I have, in fact, made remarkable progress. Just a few years ago I wold have been almost panicking about the cold weather. Well, maybe not panicking, but definitely all worried about everything. I also saw a little documentary about Alice Cooper and he made an observation: that God only helps us when we are completely helpless, given up, and all we can say is "Help". I think that's perceptive and something I've thought -- probably mentioned here on occasion. There have been times in the middle of the night -- last night in particular -- where I've felt that way and just asked to be taken over, as it were.

At any rate, we went to McD's for breakfast and I got a gift card for my mom while there and then ordered one from Culver's this afternoon so I am done with mom. Also got my SIL a movie card, so I'm almost completely done with them. I have one or two other things to get and I can mail it all out Monday or Tuesday. Tomorrow I plan on ordering the Spousal Unit's main gift online.

I didn't do much this morning. Watched the Alice Cooper thing, a bit of football. We took the Honda to the UVil so it could run for a while before having to start cold tomorrow morning. It was vaguely pleasant out. We had salad for lunch in a sunny window of Specialty's which was pleasant. Did minor shopping since we forgot bags. I got some acne moisturizer for my face. Gawd, I feel like a teenager again, although I didn't have bad acne then. I'm going to continue washing and moisting and see if it improves.

I didn't do much at home either, save for watching the Packers (bet New England 26-21 or something like that). Good weekend for us: Seattle, Alabama, WI, WA, and Green Bay all won. Had leftover turkey for dinner, so much for Thanksgiving. Walked outside. New potential song to learn, Seagull but Bad Company. Nice song. Looked fairly easy.

29 November 2014 (Saturday)

On this day in 1952 (Saturday):
Slept in until 11:30 this morning. Lee Roy went down to Grandma's with me for a big birthday dinner. After dinner we went down town and listened to some of the new records out. Meet Shirley while we were down town and I took her home. Listened to records over at Lee's place most of the afternoon. Went down to Shirley's place for about and[sic] hour before I went to work. Gas $1.75. Spent $1.75.
I bet Barbara was really high maintenance. I'm guessing that November 29 is his birthday. So whoever he was, he was born on November 29, probably around 1935. It's kind of nice reading about a new girlfriend like that.

Today was okay. Slept okay. My stupid phone alarm went off at 5:30, waking the Spousal Unit. Grrrr. That damn thing is somehow always setting itself through my unknowing agency. I think probably because I will change something and think it's changed, but forgetting to Save it. I don't like having to Save it every time I change something. Just does not seem intuitive.

Anyway, we went out for breakfast. Cold morning, about 33 and it just kept dropping from there. Right now it's about 29. It snowed overnight and we had maybe an inch on the ground, but none in the streets or concrete anywhere. We spent most of the morning futzing around, me watching football. I did write up most of a Car Lust post on the Le Car and the winter one saved me. Went to Northgate for lunch and shopping for Xmas gifts. Got most of what I need, mostly gift cards. We stopped at an estate sales on the way back and I got some old Christmas cards. Nice colors.

When we got home I pulled out a guitar book I bought several months ago and started anew with it. I changed my hand position somewhat and I think it's easier this way, but I'll have to learn new movements. I'm not far enough along that it will be that difficult, but I'm going to learn the chords in the order the book has them and master each new set before moving on. That means lots of repetition, but it really has to be done. Practicing the fundamentals is what makes you better so tedium it is.

Just because it was cold and snowy we listened to The Beach Boys in the car and then I made burgers out on the grill. The latter did not turn out well. I seriously need a light for that grill. Actually, I have some books lights, hmmmmm.......

I went for a walk without the Spousal Unit, she stayed home and cleaned. It was nice, I intend to Jethro Tull's Stormwatch which is my Winter Music.

I may start taking better care of my facial skin. I took a photo of me and I kind of look, well, oooold. I can deal with wrinkles and stuff but it doesn't look good. So I'm going to start Noxzema-ing every night and putting on some moisturizer.

I took two valerians this afternoon, seeing if two get me through the night without flipping out. We'll see.

28 November 2014 (Black Friday)

On this day in 1952 (Friday):
Slept in until about 10:30 and then went down to the church to help dad a little while until noon. Went down to Shirley's [place about 12:10 and took a [filing] down town. After dinner went over [town] and got an exhaust pipe for my car. Had to go to the dentist at 4:45. Work on the car until about 11:00. Got the exhaust pipe on but like to have froze to death.
I went and slept on the floor most of the night. I did it again, however: I simply asked God to rid me of this anxiety and I almost immediately relaxed and went back to sleep. I should really believe it this time. . . . .

Today is the 9th anniversary of my dad's death. So much has happened in that time. I miss you, Dad.

I slept okay for the most part. The Spousal Unit was up by 6 or before, too. Made pancakes for breakfast. Didn't really do much all morning except some cleaning followed by reading followed by a short nap followed by more cleaning. Watched a dumb movie. Well, it was cute. The Internship. Utterly predictable, kind of funny in spots. Sweet ending. We went to McD's for lunch and then to UVil for dinner stuff. Kind of unexciting. Then I had the bright idea to go to the gym, which I did, around 1:30. I just used the cycle for 30 minutes, ran for 15, bit of cool-down cycle, that was it. I wanted to give my left biceps a rest. It was cold and rainy all day, all the rain we were supposed to get yesterday. It has cooled off during the day, supposed to only be in the 30s tomorrow and for another 2 days or so. Many streets pseudo-flooded.

We mall-walked after dinner. First real Christmas mall walk of the season. It was pleasant. I used to not care for Christmas much, until a few years ago. Now I like a lot about it. The decorations, the music, all the people out shopping. It's got its bad points, but mostly it's a pleasant season.

27 November 2014 (Thursday, Thanksgiving)

On this day in 1952 (Thursday):
Slept in until about 9:30 and then went to Thanksgiving services at the Nazarene Church. Went to grandma's for a big turkey dinner. After dinner we went out to mother's grave. I practiced a little this afternoon and Lee Roy came over for a little while. Took Shirley out to the show tonight at the Capitol. Seen a real good show. Got in about 11:15. Had a good time. Show $1.50. Spent $1.50.
We had a quiet Thanksgiving. I felt really crappy this morning and the Spousal Unit didn't feel too well either, so we stayed home. We went to the QFC around 10 to get a few items for dinner and then just stayed in. We got a turkey leg and wings-area, some brussels sprouts, and potatoes. I put the turkey on the grill at around 11:45, but when I checked it an hour later the flame had blown out! It was windy. So I stuck it in the oven. By 2:30 it was done but still kinda tough, so the turkey didn't turn out so well. Neither did the sprouts. Potatoes were great as was the pumpkin pie the Spousal Unit made. So it wasn't too bad.

We walked after that, probably the only time all winter we'll go for an after-dinner walk in the daylight. It was supposed to rain all day but we hardly got any. I think it was rain shadowing. But the Christmas lights are on and everything looks all festive. There's some college football on that I'll watch and the SeaChickens are on, too.

Nice to have a quiet Thanksgiving for a change. Wish I'd made the food better though.

26 November 2014 (Wednesday)

On this day in 1952 (Wednesday):
Took Shirley to school this morning. Had another little [skif finger]. Took Shirley home after school. Pick her up again about 5:30 and took her down to pick up some pictures. After supper I came home a little while and at 7:15 took Shirley to church. Went down to the library and read some books while waiting to pick her up. Got home about 9:30 and I practiced about 3 hours. Just getting in bed a little after midnight. There is just enough snow on to make the roads slick tonight.
I had. . .a nice day. More or less. Woke up around 1 this morning etc. Had an outstanding workout. Came home and dealt with SJI thing and the architect actually called and it wasn't really all that (as I probably could have assumed anyway). So I went to work and fiddled with that for most of the morning. I left about noon, had lunch at NGate, came home, went to UVil, came home, worked on guitar for quite a while just doing the C-F combination. I'm getting better, but it's a lot of work. I guess I thought it would be more fun, less work, but I was wrong. Made a cake for dinner.

The weather was in the upper 50s and cloudy all day so it was really rather pleasant.

Can't decide whether we'll be going down tomorrow. Neither of us really wants to go but the Spousal Unit feels obligated. I figure if it's all about feeling "obligated" it's probably not worth doing. But that's me. Most of my best holidays have been spent alone. It's just quiet and peaceful. My first Xmas out here was perfect: sunny, 50s or 60s and I even went for a run that day. Still my favorite Xmas in recent memory.

25 November 2014 (Tuesday)`

On this day in 1952 (Tuesday):
Took Shirley to school this morning. Had our first little whiff of snow this morning. Took her home from school and took her and her mother down to the fuel yard to get a couple sacks of coal. Ate supper down at grandma's and [can] of a gas on the way home and had to have dad give me a push again. Talked to Shirley over the phone for a while tonight. Went over to Ray's for a little while and then came home and got to bed by 8:00 and did some geometry.
What a busy day. I woke up at 2:15 this morning and figured it was about 3:30, and ended up taking 1/4 ambien and sleeping on the floor. Just when I think I'm doing well. . . .

Anyway, I woke up a little before 5 so I drank some soder and had a dandy workout. I went right to Cascadia and did some stuff, finished the Bear Creek report, did a few odds and ends and then Janet and I went to Sam's Club and got some stuff for me and dropped some old video tape cassettes off to be transferred to DVD. Came back, worked a bit more, and then headed to the Ivar's by the Mukilteo ferry to meet someone for lunch, the proprietress of an online forum I've posted at for years (since like 2002). She was about what I expected, very talkative and outspoken, fun to listen to. Matronly. As it were. I enjoyed it. Drove home, missing the turn to 526 so I had to go down 525 (the loooong way) and ended up getting home around 3. Was just going to hang out but then the San Juan project hit the fan and DAHP is requiring monitoring for almost everything, blah blah blah, so I made up a monitoring plan, etc. Sheesh. I'm not even looking at my email until tomorrow.

We went to UVil to get bagels and Thanksgiving stuff. Still might not go anyway. Won a free bagel again. Beautiful evening, mid 50s, windy, no rain. This is my favorite Seattle weather. Back in the early 1990s when I couldn't sleep -- every.single.night I'd go to bed, fall half asleep, and then wake up -- I'd get dressed again and go for a 20-minute walk or so, which usually worked. So for about three years I was intimately familiar with the weather. I used to love walking around at about 11 at night in this weather, where you could see the low clouds moving quickly through the sky.

So yeah, now instead of walking around outside I got sleep on the couch, the floor, etc.  . . . .

Monday, November 24, 2014

24 November 2014 (Monday)

On this day in 1952 (Monday):
Took Shirley to school this morning. Most of the morning we got to watch three plays put on by the dramatics classes. Stayed after school and watch the girls play off championship game in after school sports. Took Shirley home from school. Went down to her place a little while before I and[sic] played at the Front Street Mission tonight for a church service. Helped with the music and played a special number. Got home about 9:30.
I managed to sleep okay again last night. At least until 3:30, but I managed to drift back to sleep. I think maybe the valerian root is doing something about that. Thus far I'm taking one first thing in the morning and one in late afternoon.

Actually I got up around 4:30 meaning I drank a soda meaning I had a great workout, if a bit undirected. I got a chick to show me how she was doing these front squats, which I'd been meaning to try. She was right, it really does something different to the lower back than regular squats. I can't tell yet if they'll be really good for my back or kill it. Seemed okay when doing them.

I went to Cascadia after stopping by for bagels and soda. Worked mostly on a couple of bids and junk, Facetimed with Jana about a couple projects, and then spent some time (unpaid) working up a Car Lust post. Left there around 2:30 I guess. Made dinner. Went to UVil to check on some new litter (still thinking) and got some dinner stuff for Wednesday and tomorrow and some Thanksgiving supplies.

I came home and did some stuff and worked on I Will Wait (Mumford and Sons) for a while. I was actually doing it not too badly. Getting better at the F, finally.

Sunday, November 23, 2014

23 November 2014 (Sunday)

On this day in 1952 (Sunday):
Took Shirley to church and came home and did some geometry while waiting to pick her up. After I picked her up she went down to grandma's with me and ate dinner with us. After dinner I got my book and went down to her place and did some more geometry. After supper she went to church with me down at my church. We had a [movie]. Rick [came] up down town and took him home. Had a lot of fun today with Shirley. Gas $1.00. Spent $1.00.
Sounding like he's moved on. I think Barbara was a high maintenance GF.

Another bizarre night. Well, not that bad. I ended up sleeping on the floor most of the night. And it was quite comfortable actually. I think I sleep very soundly down there, although it does tend to hurt my shoulders some. I slept until 5. Watched most of the Grand Prix of Abu Dhabi; Lewis Hamilton won the race and the driver's championship. He's hooked up with Nicole Scherzinger who is simply stunning. I hope they breed, we need more super attractive people in the world. Went to Mass, I drove because it was pouring rain most of the early morning although it had let up by 8. I drove anyway because I thought it might rain again.

After I came home I did a couple of chores and watched a thing on TV about R..E.M. (the band). I kind of liked them. Well, I really liked their Green and Out of Time albums, listened to them a lot in the late 1980s out in the field, so they always remind me of fieldwork back then. Crazy, but good music.

We went to UVil today and did the usual things. Didn't rain much the rest of the day and in fact it got to be quite sunny. I put up the rest of the lights outside. Sadly, three strings didn't light up, which is odd because they're LEDs and I thought those always worked! That took over an hour, during which I listened to mostly Alice Cooper. You know, to get in the mood.

Made pasta for dinner in hopes of a good workout tomorrow. What else. I dunno, kind of a decent, if quiet day. Played guitar for a while in the afternoon. I really need to take at least a couple of lessons.

Saturday, November 22, 2014

22 November 2014 (Saturday)

On this day in 1952 (Saturday):
Took my car down and had it tuned this morning. After dinner Lee Roy and I went to all the new dears and looked at the 53 models that are out Ran out of gas going to supper this evening. Brought Shirley home from a wedding. Went to work about 8:30 and got in about 1:00. $.30 eats. Spent $.30.
*knock wood* I never have run out of gas. Hasn't mentioned Barbara for several days either.

Weird day today. Last night was even weirder. I got out of the bed at 11:30 -- pathetic, I know -- and decided to go downstairs. Oddly, Jack was just sitting down there already. Unless he ran down in front of me and I didn't see him. Anyway, it kind of reminded me of some stupid horror movie I'd seen a few weeks ago called Paranormal Activity 5, where a kid could see a ghost called Toby. So I started thinking (not seriously mind you) that Jack was down there talking to "Toby" the ghost. So all night I kept dreaming of stupid ghosts. Jack was curled up next to me, too, which I liked, but he hogs up space. So I didn't sleep all that well. And I woke up at 3:30. So I moved to yet another sleeping station! Up in the TV room. Didn't think I'd go back to sleep but I did. So I was decently rested today.

We went out for breakfast. Came home, the Spousal Unit went out and raked and I watched football stuff and ended up taking a nap around 9:45. We let for the UDist around 10:10 for the Spousal Unit's hair appt., and I hung out at the Bookstore etc. Drove up to Alderwood mall for something to do. The Spousal Unit bought a pair of and I got a Xmas gift for my sister. Came home by way of an estate sale, nothing but a neat old musical Christmas thing. Several bears or monkeys or something that would hit little chimes and play tunes. Didn't have a power supply though. I dunno, maybe I'll go back tomorrow and buy it and see if I can find one.

We were going to walk at NGate but after being up at Alderwood today we decided to just walk around here (and it wasn't raining).

I was thinking about making every weekend a '70s-'80s weekend. You know, just switch off all the communications stuff and just hang out in the material world the whole time. I do think it was helpful last week to Live Like The '80s (or try to) for a few days. I think my mind was somewhat calmer.

21 November 2014 (Friday)

On this day in 1952 (Friday):
Took Shirley to school this morning and took her home. Had a [yayon] test today. Took Shirley to a show tonight. Went to the Capitol and saw a real good musical and a talent show. After the show I asked her to go study with me and she excepted[sic]. Got home about mid-night. Am a little tired tonight. Show $1.80. Spent $1.80.

"go study with me" Uh-huh. On the other hand, the Capitol Theatre is still around.

What happened today. At the moment I am in a fabulous mood. Dunno why, although when I was driving home this afternoon (actually driving to the UW) I really thought that things were going pretty well these days, considering. I mean, I'm doing both archaeology and GH, working out extremely hard nearly every time, I have Laurie back as a friend, and many other things. Eh, maybe it's just the valerian root. But we just got back from "walking" up at TJ Maxx and the fabric store.

Man, I was so optimistic during the night: I'd woken up several times and stayed in the bed. Finally, I woke up at some point feeling pretty refreshed and thought "Yeah, I stayed in the bed the whole night!"

Nah, it was 3:30. Buggers. But I went to the TV room and managed to doze off again, unassisted. So I felt okay all day. Had a really great workout. Went to Cascadia after coming home first. Got several things done, including most of the Bear Creek report. Someone called up and said they needed a survey done on Camano island for some landslide material. So that was different. I left there around 11:30 to go to the Ave to eat lunch and get my hair cut at 12:30. Nice to see Anne again.

I went to the UVil after that as I needed some dinner items and got my Oracea scrip refilled. Yeah, I went back on it. I managed to keep my face reasonably clear with Noxzema, but my scalp was getting all sorts of zits. And they hurt. I assume it's from the rosacea, although I also suspect it might be raging hormones from working out so hard. But whatever. What else. Sat in SBux for a bit. I came home and worked on Song for the Siren for almost an hour. I really want to learn how to play that. It's really one of the few acoustic songs that I really, really like. Odd that, I'd never heard of it before a few months ago. (Actually I'd heard it before but didn't know it)

So that's about it.

20 April 2014 (Thursday)

On this day in 1952 (Thursday):
Picked up Shirley and took her to school this morning. Things went about the same in school. Took Shirley home after school. Had an appointment with the dentist after school, first time in my life had some teeth filled. Did about an hour of geometry tonight. Talk to Shirley for a while on the phone tonight. Gas $1.00. Spent $1.00.
I hope he's getting his ring back from Barbara. Although following protocol, they'll get back together soon enough.

I think I slept in the bed until around 3 or 3:30 but it seems like earlier. Mind went whacko but I went back to sleep shortly with some assistance. Went out monitoring again. I thought it was going to rain but it didn't, much. Actually pretty pleasant out there. Janet came out and I gave her an introduction to the art of monitoring. It was done by 9 so we went to the SBux and went over forms and monitoring plans and such for a while. Drove back, then I worked on the one excavation permit some more (sent it out), did some other stuff until around 2. Then I went to find a Bank of America (minor adventure there) and got the Honda'a emissions tested. Yippee. Came home, fiddled with guitar, made dinner, walked.

I found Randall's old Compaq computer in a closet and tried to fire it up, but to no avail. What a neat little computer it was. It was the "portable" one where the keyboard made up the base, which popped off and the screen was right there. I always thought it was a fabulous design. I took a picture of it next to a newer Macbook just for comparison. I really would like to get that thing working again, but I have no idea what I'd be doing with it.

19 November 2014 (Wednesday)

On this day in 1952 (Wednesday):
Took Shirley to school this morning. Had an assembly this morning at 9:00. Had a test in geometry. Took Shirley home from school and took her to church at 7:30. While I [waited] I went down to the library and read for a while. Afterwards I took to an open house at [Cadevish] school where her mother was working.
He always seems to have some broad in the mix for the times when Barbara's off.

I almost slept well last night, but I woke at 3:15. =( And my mind went about a thousand miles an hour. I broke down and snagged 1/4 ambien. Worked pretty well, I mostly slept until 5 after that, so good on me. What else. Kind of a decent workout, although I felt kind of blehh. I probably could have worked much harder.

Rode downtown and started right in on revising ye olde paper. Actually, it went well after a slow start. I got through the Results section and I'm okay with it. Of course, I was okay with it two versions ago. . . .but we'll see. I worked pretty steadily all day, at least until about 2:00. Only had a scone for lunch. What else. Yeah, that was about it. I read through some slides for one of the epi classes. Bus ride home was uneventful. I listened to U2's Achtung Baby on the way back, I hardly ever listen to music on the bus. But I felt like it.

We walked down to Metropolitan Market for a loaf of bread and I got a sandwich for lunch tomorrow (actually 2 days' worth). Must put buttons on other work pants tonight as well.

18 November 2014 (Tuesday)

On this day in 1952 (Tuesday):
Took Barbara to school this morning. Got in a big argument and she broke up with me. Had a assembly this morning. Got in a fight with a dam Nigger in the assembly and got kicked out. Saw Shirley after school a little while. Ate at grandma's and then came home a studied about a hour and a half on geometry. Sure am sore from the fight today. Gas $1.00. Spent $1.00.
Who even knew there were black people in eastern Washington back then? I had to check the date to make sure it wasn't May or something, what with yet another breakup.

I had a decent day. Slept well again. Had a pretty decent workout (leg). I came home ready to eat bagels and then go to Cascadia but then Michael emailed wondering where I was? Hmmm? Turned out he'd asked to change our Skype from Thursday to Tuesday at 8, but I only got the "8" part. Happily I was in and we could talk. Still difficult trying to get this the ay he wants, but I'm persevering because I think he's right. So I keep swallowing my pride and going along. Although I did start to push back a bit today, or at least be more assertive.

So I went to Cascadia and worked all day on the Bear Creek report and getting the last bits of the SJI excavation permit ready. The latter is almost there. The former is . . . well, I used an old report which doesn't have the same background as others, so it's shorter. I hope it will work. Also went to NGate bank to get a document notarized, and had lunch there. I left there at 3. Drove my Mustang and found the heater core is out again because it doesn't really defrost (I have have mentioned this earlier). Sure is fun to drive that thing though. Just a lot of brute force.

We went to UVil to cash a couple of checks. Supposed to warm up over the next day or so and begin raining again.
